Stay away from this place! They rip you off on portions so bad!
I ordered for $32 the Happy Family combo + large side of crab wontons + large egg drop soup... here thinking it could serve 4 people, boy was I wrong! No wonder they staple the bag to death and don't want you to open it there or look inside lol
I took home the large Happy Fam dinner meal -- of chicken, beef, jumbo shrimps, lobster, scallops, mushrooms, broccoli, baby corn, green and red bel peppers, snow peas, carrots, bamboo shoot, and garlic sauce + white rice (she substituted EXTRA chicken for cutting the pork)... sounds like a lot to fit in right? -- was crammed inside a single 7 in x 4 in container. Add the 1 rice box, 6 wontons (smaller than other shops), & soup... It looked more like a decent size dinner for 2, not near enough to serve 4 folks (3 ppl would be very disappointed)
Usually when you order a Chinese or Thai combination platter you get a separate container of beef & a separate container of chicken (or shrimp) w/ a rice box for each, but not here. For $16 it was stuffed into one 7 x 4 in. container. There was 1 piece of shrimp & 1 tiny lobster tail. (I was surprised at the lobster cuz I missed the lobster on the menu.) So what are we supposed to do cut a shrimp into 4 pieces, and a little lobster tail into 4? It can be awkward at a dinner table when 1 person out of 4 gets it and who to decide, they don't see or realize these obvious matters unfortunately
Every one of us 4 were disappointed yet laughed at the trifling amount of food!!! As it was so ridiculously small
As well ordering at the restaurant I asked for sauce (soy sauce, mustard, sweet n sour, and the oily hot sauce) ... and receive 1 or 2 each of the packets and 1 little thumb sized cup of hot sauce. I guess they somehow forget you're ordering a "family meal" size! I asked please for more sauce... the cheap lady (who I believe is the manager or owner) hands me 1 more of each, and of course subtly complains to her co-worker in Chinese w/ a frown while handing it over
Otherwise the food itself did taste good and the quality of it was better than most other Chinese restaurants. Still I'm never coming back here again cause the amount looked more worth $16 or $18 max, most definitely not $32!
I never recall in my life not getting enough food at a Chinese restaurant - the three thousand times I've ever ordered. This place definitely is super cheap and making a killing by these miniscule portions they serve! Even the inside of the restaurant (as an eat-in diner) couldn't look any cheaper and bland. Were zero dining customers on a Saturday night. They take no pride in their restaurant & are...
Read moreSo I've lived in Stafford for about 4 years and this was my first time trying this spot. Full disclosure, my reg spot closed and I needed a new one. The other place I order from, didn't make the Gen Tsos good so I took a chance here.
I ordered Gen Tsos chicken, Szechuan String Beans and egg rolls. I got a side of fried rice with the GT and white rice with the green beans.
Egg rolls - Good flavor, but way too little filling to wrapper ratio. I cut into it b/c this was an issue at another place. I don't understand why you can't just cut the wrapper if you're going to make small eggrolls. I guess they want them to look bigger and appear to be filled. But they are NOT. I ended up just eating around the filling and tossing the uncooked wrapping. It was very disappointing b/c egg rolls are my favorite.
Fried rice was plain (meaning no meat) but I did expect it to have some veggies in it. But there was nothing! No peas, no carrots, no cabbage. Just rice with whatever sauce they use to make it brown. It did not taste good at all, very weird flavor and I had to toss it.
So on to why they got 4 stars:
The white rice was good, fluffy...glad they didn't mess that up b/c it would've been a travesty.
The General Tsos was really good, it wasn't a super large portion but it was enough to where I could finish it (I made a couple of meals out if it). It reheated well and I appreciated the presentation. It looked amazing!
The green beans, which is my fave veggie, were really good. I liked the sauce a lot, even tho I still needed a bit of salt to bring out the flavors, it was really good. They do have way too much sauce imo, but at least its enough to stir things around and get the veggies nice and coated when you're ready to eat them. But I ate the whole container over a couple of days, and I was really happy with it.
So the verdict, I have somewhere to get my Gen Tsos and some veggies, so that's good at least. I'll have to just start keeping my own egg rolls in my freezer...
Read moreThis is my first time here & we were going get carry out but decided to just sit down. I can’t even begin with how delicious everything was. I usually always take pictures of my food & I completely forgot to because I was too busy stuffing my mouth. We ordered the spring rolls, egg soup & dumplings for appetizers which were all good. For our main course myself & my daughter had the vegetable fried rice, general tso tofu & orange tofu. IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST BITE! I haven’t had Chinese food that delicious in forever! I could see the ingredients that made up the sauces. The orange tofu tasted like they picked the oranges fresh from the tree & zested them onto the plate. It was orgasmic! the fried rice was so flavorful, I don’t remember the last time I didn’t pour soy sauce over my rice! No sauce was needed, it was that good! I don’t usually finish my food but I CLEARED that plate, If I had no home training I would have licked the plate. My partner had the shrimp lo mein and he said his food was really good. We’re not originally from here & not used to getting really good food here in Stafford so this was AN EXPERIENCE! I cannot wait to come back!
The customer service was great, after awhile out waiter asked us how was our food. My partner responded saying really good actually, the waiter responded “what do you mean actually?” It was a funny moment because again not great experiences thus far but the waiter had every right to be offended by that statement, he was right to be proud of the food...
