==== Aug 2022 review ==== Got the take out for 3rd time. Ordered masala and cheese dosa. Obviously dosa is best eaten freshly made so not recommended for takeout since it gets very soft and feels soggy - certainly outside restaurant's control given how humid it gets for this area. The only thing is that the chutney sauces 'seem' smaller for takeout. The best dishes to order for take out are the curries and appetizers. ==== 2020 review ==== This place makes fresh proper dosas. And menu fill options for dosas are many and each dosa comes with 3 sauces that frankly, I have not seen at most other Indian establishments I've been to (awesome plus here). And the lamb and goat curry ....... is un-apologetically fresh. Kinda feels like they use fresh herbs and spices. Oh wait, it located next to an Indian market that has fresh herbs and spices. And mild = spicy, which is how it should be. I didn't grow up eating dosas but this is literally a repeat place. I am now eating more at this place than fast food chain restaurants. So in conclusion: Dosa Grill makes fresh proper dosas well (and also lamb & goat curry really well too). Enough said. Go eat and see for yourself and please do not do dosa for takeout because it'll just get all soggy on the drive home.

Overall, the food here was very good and they provide a huge portion of food for the price. The staff are friendly and the restaurant's decor is decent. I have to applaud how friendly the staff are. I told the server I wasn't very familiar with dosa but was interested in trying it and he helped me navigate the menu asking me questions and describing the various dishes to help me figure out which one I would like. This was stellar service. I tried the chicken 65 dosa. The first thing I noticed when I was served was how large the portion was for $14. This amount of food could easily be split for another meal. I will say even for the mild the food could be considered spicy by the average person. Perhaps it was just this dish but I would hope there are milder dishes on the menu for friends I bring that don't have any sort of spice tolerance. Additionally, I tried the mango lassi. They had a bunch sitting around refrigerated and it was good and refreshing and I was pretty happy with the portion for the price.

Poor service but amazingly good food. I arrived at 1 pm for lunch and found just one person taking orders and attending customers. It wasn’t very busy but just one server- Dan was doing his best. As I stood and waited nearly 10 minutes to get a table, poor Dan was taking orders alone, while the manager appeared to be sitting on a video call with family and chit chatting without looking up even once. The tables were left uncleaned. Finally Dan assigned me a seat and handed me a menu. I ordered a masala dosa and it arrived nice and hot within 10 minutes. The dosa was fantastic and the sauces and sambar were delicious. If you have the time and the patience, you will be very pleased. One server at lunch hour is ridiculous while the manager appeared preoccupied and completely unaware of people waiting to be seated. Kudos to Dan who kept calm and running around each table and apologetic. I blame management for not doing more to have better service because the food was good. I tipped Dan 20% for his job!

A Culinary Journey to India at Dosa Grill

If you're craving authentic Indian flavors in the heart of Dulles, Virginia, look no further than “Dosa Grill”. This gem of a restaurant is a celebration of South Indian cuisine, offering a delightful mix of traditional dishes and modern twists that will leave your taste buds dancing.

Dosa Grill lives up to its name with an impressive array of dosas, the iconic South Indian crepes made from fermented rice and lentil batter. Whether you opt for the classic “Masala Dosa”(stuffed with spiced potatoes) or the indulgent “Paneer Dosa”, each bite is a perfect balance of crispiness and flavor. The accompanying chutneys and sambar are freshly made and add layers of tanginess and spice that elevate the dish to new heights.

But Dosa Grill isn’t just about dosas. The menu is a treasure trove of South Indian delicacies. The “Idli” and “Vada” are soft, fluffy, and perfectly textured, while the “Uttapam” (a savory pancake) is a must-try for its hearty toppings and satisfying crunch. For those who love biryanis, the “Hyderabadi Dum Biryani” is a fragrant, aromatic masterpiece that’s worth every calorie.

The service at Dosa Grill is as exceptional as the food. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to guide you through the menu if you’re new to South Indian cuisine. They take pride in their offerings, and it shows in every interaction.

What truly sets Dosa Grill apart is its commitment to authenticity. The flavors are bold, the spices are perfectly balanced, and every dish feels like it’s been made with love and care. Whether you’re a seasoned fan of Indian food or a curious first-timer, this restaurant will leave you craving more.

In a world where dining out can often feel rushed or impersonal, Dosa Grill is a refreshing reminder of what a great restaurant experience should be. It’s not just a meal—it’s a journey to the heart of India, one delicious bite at a time.

If you’re in Dulles, do yourself a favor and visit Dosa Grill. Your taste buds will...

My friends and I stopped here for a quick bite after going the the Painted Tree nearby. While the food was decent given that the NOVA area is rife with good Indian food and other options, I personally do not want to go back to this establishment.

As soon as we sat down, the wait staff was rushing us to order mentioning after 3:00 PM, they would only have dosas available and a limited menu. While this is understandable, we had not even had time to look at the menu before they started hammering us about making an order. Another one of my friends did have dietary restrictions and we did ask them for some extra time which they did not accommodate.

My other friend mentioned we might leave if they continue to badger us, they said they could accommodate us to order off their normal menu if we do it immediately. We ordered then and there given their demands. The waitress then maybe less than 10 minutes after we had ordered demanded we pay for the food even though we had not yet gotten our order.

My friend asked why we were being asked to pay even though we hadn't been served and the waitress gave some reply that the kitchen would be closing soon and that it would be "easier for them." However, I did notice, we were the only people being asked to pay immediately after ordering and every other patrons got the bill after they ate. This came off as extremely rude and that they clearly only wanted us to pay so that we could not leave.

When the food arrived, it was average at best. I would say I've been to better establishments near my house for about the same price. The naan was decent, but the saag was a bit to watery and not as spicy or flavorful as it could have been.

Update based on reply: Thank you for your reply back to the review and kind offer for an additional meal. I appreciate that you will investigate how we were treated at your...

We placed an order at 6:49 PM and was quoted that the order would be ready in 19 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:15 PM, as the online ordering platform indicated our food would be ready. However, upon arrival, the food was not ready.

I asked the staff how much longer it would take, and instead of providing a direct answer, they explained the tandoori cooking process. When I specifically asked for a time estimate, they told me 20 more minutes.

After waiting an additional 30 minutes, we re-entered the restaurant, only to find that our food was still not ready. At this point, it had been an hour since we placed our order.

I requested to speak with a manager, but the staff walked away and never returned. I had to find another employee to escalate the issue before I was finally able to speak with a manager. By then, it was 7:42 PM, and we still had not received our food. Instead of addressing the situation with an apology or a solution, the manager only justified the delay.

This was supposed to be a special meal for my father’s birthday, yet we wasted over an hour waiting. As compensation, the manager offered a measly $10 discount on a $90 bill, but even then, they wouldn’t apply it directly—instead, they told us we’d have to call later to receive it.

When I asked for the owner's name, the staff refused to provide it. When I asked the manager for her own name, she also refused.

This was an absolutely horrible experience—zero customer service, no accountability, and complete failure to deliver timely service. I would not recommend this...
