El Rancho Tex-Mex — Restaurant in Virginia

I have been going Va bbq for years. The one that was in Ashland was always consistent and had excellent food. I cannot say the same for this location, in fact it is the very opposite. Sometimes the bbq is great and other times it is horrible. I have been to this new location 8 times and 3 out of the 8 the food was not goodd, but after tonight’s experience I am sad to say that I will no longer willing to take the crapshot. I ordered the family meal with N.C style bbq tonight, as I normally do. First, They were out of baked beans, so I had to get green beans which is really no big deal, but no restaurant should run out of anything, if properly managed. Second, I got home with my food for my family and immediately noticed the bbq container was not full, only about 3/4 full, maybe a little more. That’s a huge difference in a tapered container. There ended up being enough to make 3 small bbq’s not the normal 4 bbq’s. Third, we found several very large chunks of hard inedible stuff that should have never made it in the bbq to begin with. Which was another reason we only got 3 small bbq’s. Fourth, we sat down to eat and the bbq was so dry that no amount of sauce could bring it back. Overall it was terrible and I had to go back out and get dinner for my family somewhere else. I am sorry to say I’m not willing to gamble with getting food for my family here anymore. I cannot see this place being around for very long at this rate. Especially losing 15 year patrons...

I grew up in North Carolina. We use a vinegar based bbq sauce there. Virginia BBQ is one of the few restaurants in my area that has a NC style bbq sauce. I only have one complaint and it's not their fault. They use UberEats to deliver. UberEats has the highest delivery charge of any other deliver service around here. The order I placed today went on a credit card. The driver delivered the food to the wrong unit. The occupants of that unit took and kept the order. I called UberEats. The CSR I spoke to was barely understanding, with a thick accent. I had to repeat things numerous times because she couldn't understand. She attempted to call the driver 3 times in a 15 minute time frame. The only option offered to me was for them to refund my money (7-10 business days) and that was it. I was advised to reorder and to pay again. I did inform a manager at Virginis BBQ. Again, this was not their fault and everything I've eaten their is wonderful. Kinda wish the cook would stop offering unsolicited life advice and talking about conspiracy theories with customers tho, gives the meal a weird feel when the guy that made it asks personal questions (dating life, etc) and then starts speaking on his political beliefs and offering unsolicited advice.

Being friendly and asking about someone’s day is nice, but I start to get uncomfortable (as I’m sure others could) when a stranger asks me if I’m romantically involved with anyone, then offers dating advice; and then it’s taken to an even more uncomfortable place when I realize this stranger’s political opinions are vastly different than my own. People are unlikely to complain about this on the spot, but it is enough to make repeat visits uncomfortable.
