Houlihan's — Restaurant in Virginia

I'm going to start off this review backwards. Rodney one of the kitchen managers goes out of his way to take care of people.

That type of service and attention to detail and not be taught and is very rare. This gentleman deserves a raise and a promotion.

This particular experience and this houlihan's is connected to the Crowne plaza hotel. The Crowne plaza hires houlihan's to provide breakfast for guests.

The breakfast is a buffet as part of their standard. Unfortunately and honestly the breakfast buffet is pretty bad.

Watered down juices, boiled eggs and bags, just not what you would expect at a mid-range hotel.

This is where Rodney comes in. Rodney past my table just to make sure everything was okay and I gave him honest feedback. He understood and then offered to make me something fresh from the kitchen.

Now he very easily could have just said thank you for the feedback and moved along but he was wanting to Make up for it and that's what you can't teach. The attention to detail and wanting to make something right.

He came over and checked on me again and the food from the kitchen was good. It was what you would expect from a higher end hotel.

Houlihans has been one of my favorite restaurants since I was a teen. I was super excited that I had to go to Dulles to pick up a friend, even though it's a hour away, because I knew I could go to Houlihans. This is the closest one to me now. Unfortunately, all the ones near me have closed.

I ordered my favorites: thai chili wings, shrooms and baked potato soup.

My wings were fried a little too hard and didn't have as much sauce as I would like but were still tasty ⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Can't go wrong with baked potato soup, it's comfor in a bowl, but it could have been a little hotter ⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Shrooms were bussin as the kids would say, which mean they were really good. Fried perfectly, crunch, that hot filling and the dip they serve with it-heaven ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

I didn't send anything back because they were severely short staffed. No hostess and I think one waiter on the floor. I gave them some grace, they are doing the best they can.

The scallops and risotto dish was yummy, but the service was lacking. There were 3 servers in the dining area but they were all talking to a guy in the back of the room, so it took a few minutes until someone came over. He didn't take my name down for the carry-out order and then all 3 servers disappeared (didn't see them again even though people were dining). Luckily I saw a runner bring food out so I went to ask and she didn't even know what it was, so the bartender opened my food to see and then asked if I wanted it? Like yes sir that's my food? I suggested their process would go smoother if they took a name down for to-go orders instead of opening up people's food. I guess he didn't like that (even though every other restaurant does it), cuz he was pretty rude and dismissive after that.
