Johnny Mac's NC Style BBQ — Restaurant in Virginia

Huge fan of BBQ and always looking out for small places like this that are often hidden gems but this place is not it. I knew I was taking a risk when inside of the place smelled so gross and unappetizing.

Ordered a BBQ pulled sandwich that didn’t even have any BBQ, had to go back and was given a grimy greasy bottle to pour it on myself. Didn’t tasted smoked at all, which was I was expecting with a pulled pork sandwich, was rather slimy and ended up just tossing it out after a couple bites. Was hoping the Mac and Cheese was different but tasted so grainy which is a NOT texture you want due to curdling, so another knock for serving disgusting, far from fresh food. Or if even giving them the benefit of the doubt, that they didn’t properly mix dry cheese packets then…is a knock against them.

And lastly, there was the fruit punch which had a funky smell and taste. I legit wouldn’t have even made the effort to have written this review if it wasn’t for the fact that three out of the three items were just so gross and awful tasting. Writing this as a warning since its not just bad food but probably a health risk considering how everything inside...

Went here for the first time and ordered mac & cheese, half smoke w/ chili cheese, hamburger, hotdog, rib sandwich (turned out to be a rib order), vanilla sundae, and chocolate shake. The ice cream was pretty good but the food was unimpressive. The cheese in the mac & cheese was chunky and noodles were over cooked. Half smoke was fine, but not packed with flavor like I was hoping. Hamburger was ok, but could use some seasoning. I ordered a rib sandwich, but received only ribs. The ribs were pretty bland even with bbq sauce and I was not impressed at all.

Overall, I would stop by again for ice cream if I was in the area but would leave the food for another location. I'd love to hear that the food has improved in the future and give it another shot then. I will admit the place stayed busy while there, so somethings...

This place is cute and was recommended to us by our neighbor. It could definitely use a makeover. First off, wayyyyyy too many items on the menu. How in the world can you be “good” at that many things! We ordered the bbq pork sandwich, beans, Mac and cheese and hot dogs. The bbq wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. I hate to say it but it was so bland. The hot dogs left much to be desired. The mac and cheese was so over cooked the noodles were mush. The whole cup was just a cheese/noodle bland mush cup. Wasn’t even edible!! Overall this could be a super cute spot but it needs some help. Knock half the menu off and focus on the few items you have vs having 100+ things on the menu and subpar taste.
