One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in DC-VA-MD to get tacos. It's one of the more authentic Mexican restaurants in this area. Kind of a hole-in-the-wall place, off Hwy 1 in Alexandria, in the middle of a not-so-glamorous shopping center. Definitely easy to miss if you're not looking. However, what's inside is some seriously good food.
You can order carne asada, chicken, carnitas, barbacoa, beef tongue, shrimp, or fish tacos; all tacos are served with cilantro, onions, and lime. You can also get hot sauce. I like the carnitas tacos the best. I've also tasted their seafood soup, which was very good too. Huge portions of seafood in a giant bowl of soup for only $11.75.
I haven't had any of their bakery items yet, but it all looks good and authentic. It's such a good feeling knowing that I can depend on La Mexicana to supply authentic Mexican dishes. Even my boyfriend's parents, who have lived in California their entire lives and obviously have experienced authentic Mexican cuisine, thought this place was really good.
The owner is really friendly and the place is very clean. Not a lot of seating, but who cares? I'd eat these tacos standing...
Read moreDon't let this place get passed you! If you have a sweet tooth like me, Their pastries are absolutely delicious and perfect for us sugar addicts! All I actually wanted was plain muffins to enjoy with some jam I received as a gift and they did not disappoint!... but then I saw the big slices of TRES LECHES cake. I had to try it... if this cake is your thing give theirs a try. It's difficult to find a good bakery that knows what they'redoing when it comes to tress leches. Oh! But Don't stop there! Their Pecan Pie is so rich and so decadent! Their breads are soft and tasty, their giant cookies look amazing (I will be trying them next!) Okay! Let's get to their actual meal options! The taste of authenticity is sometimes difficult to come by up here in VA, in my own opinion, but at this place you can feel the coziness and warmth of Mexico.
Their service is wonderful too! Quick, Kind, and Prompt. 3 for 3! They prioritize and follow safety measures during this current situation in the world which is to be appreciated because, I'm sure a lot of us know, that isn't always the case.
Never hurts to try this cute little place out if you have...
Read moreUsed to be my favorite place, but the customer service is horrible now. Whoever i spoke with today at 6:20pm is very very bad at their job. I ordered a ton of stuff, and my father once again read the order upon arriving and the man confirmed all was there and my father paid. They forgot a burrito, and never charged me for it so i called asking why they said everything was in the bag. The guy said "i can't help that if its not on the receipt then i can't help its not in the bag" .. then why say it was in the bag??
My father went in there while i was on the phone with the guy who works there and he was being very rude to my father for asking the simple question, why did he say it was in the bag if it wasn't.
And then hung up on me while i was talking.
My parents have met the owners and have NEVER had this issue. I'm unsure who this guy was but Carlos is the one who did my order.
You guys should make sure your employees are not being rude to customers and telling them they are in the wrong, when they are the ones who got the order wrong....
