Tonight my family went to dine at Pistone's for the first time. We usually go to A Modo Mio for pizza, but my husband wanted to try something different for his Father's Day dinner. If you don't read any further - just go to A Modo Mio. I am still nursing my 10m old son who is intolerant to dairy and soy. The menu states the pizza is "Neapolitan style," which indicates it is NOT made with dairy. I asked instead about how they make their tomato sauce (as places like Anthony's use parmesan in the sauce) and was told it's just made with olive oil. My husband ordered his pizza, and I ordered a plain marinara pizza for myself and my son. About 10 minutes later the server returned to tell me there is dairy in the crust. Side note, he also told us there was dairy in the bread, so I was unable to eat any of the bread provided either. He started talking about gluten free, which I never even brought up because that doesn't apply to my situation. I asked if I could instead order the duck papardelle and he said the pasta is made with dairy. (Pasta is made with egg, flour and water). I told him I could eat egg, but he dissuaded me from ordering it and instead offered me a salad, which I declined. He seemed irritated at having to accommodate my our need and didn't want to go back and ask additional questions for me. At this point, I knew my husband and daughter's pizza would be coming out soon, so I just declined to order because I knew the timing would be off. He then offered a salmon entree, which sounded safe, so I agreed and fed my son a pouch of applesauce I had on hand while we waited. Soon the pizza came out and the server said the salmon would be coming soon. About 20 minutes later, the pizza had been consumed, my son was fussy and ready for bed, and we were advised again the salmon would be coming soon. I'm pretty sure the order was forgotten, which is irritating, but not as irritating as a waitstaff who doesn't know about allergens in the food they are serving, and/or menus that don't accurately reflect the food being offered. If I'd known it wasn't actual Neapolitan pizza, I'd have just ordered a "safe" entree from the beginning rather than ask questions to see if I could get the pizza. So I sat and watched my husband and daughter eat while I tried to quiet my still hungry son who was screaming to be fed the pizza he couldn't eat. Not the Father's Day dinner we'd envisioned. We will not be back to PIstone's, and will instead continue going to A Modo Mio where we have successfully eaten (delicious) dairy free food - bread, bruschetta, and pizza... They have many dairy free options but the pizza is so good, I just always get that! Disappointing evening. A least my husband is still an amazing father despite horrible service and...
Read moreMy company held a baby shower for an expectant mother on staff and we had a mixed experience. The reason we frequent Pistone's quite frankly at all is because it is a five minute tops walk from our building at the twin BBT towers. The restaurant allowed us to decorate the restaurant with balloons, banners and such under the condition that we cleaned it up. Absolutely no problem with that. We requested a reduced menu to try and streamline service for the 20 attendants but despite reassurance that they were going to do that they did not.
This resulted in a delay in meals being brought out for our group in clusters of the same dish with no regard to feeding the guest of honor first which was irritating. Our expectant mother ended up being served last... The food was sub par Italian food. I had the chicken parmigiana and found the batter was soggy and falling off the chicken, the sauce tasted like it came out of a can and the noodles were over cooked... Not good at all. Others said their lasagne and such came out good but not having tried it I can't give a strong opinion.
The checks were also a debacle as we asked them to please give each table their own checks as the restaurant could not seat us all together. Despite this they brought out one large check and then it was up to us to figure out how to divvy up the payment.... Other than that they were friendly, relatively attentive and tried to...
Read moreThis place should be avoided by all but the locals and with any luck it will finally be shut down and replaced by something worthy of the location and if continued the Italian heritage of fine dining and beautiful food. This place is anything but beautiful with nothing resembling beautiful food. The last time I ate here I was a teenager, I'm 50. I wish I had never eaten here again. But tonight was a night for adventure and lo and behold it was a miserable one. They screwed up spaghetti and meatballs they screwed up linguine with clams and the bread cake with crab didn't taste bad but we wanted a crab cake. This is definitely one of those places where if you were to go to the bathroom before you ever sat down you would not want to sit down. You would just leave doing yourself the biggest favor of all. The service was mediocre at best and the prices were fine dining prices way too expensive for the quality and service. I really think these people are just taking advantage of the local seniors. The Frank Sinatra music in the background wasn't bad, the drinks were too expensive and the wine tasted like it came out of the cheapest bottle from a drugstore but at the end of the day it's about the food and this place sucked elephant asses. I wish there was a no...
