Having moved here recently from Hanover, I tried 5 different Mexican restaurants before I found Rico's. The food is great, beef dishes are not overcooked which is a common complaint of mine. But, I need to talk about the salsa. Some people enjoy eating salsa and tortilla chips. I enjoy eating salsa and the tortilla chip is merely a utensil for shoveling tablespoons of salsa in with every bite. Rico's salsa is PERFECT. If you taste a salsa and immediately taste lemon or onion, that salsa is imperfect. Lemon and onion are part of the recipe, but they shouldn't be leading the flavor parade. Cilantro should barely lead in flavor. (Sorry you Neanderthal Cilantro haters!) Rico's salsa is blended perfectly medium between too chunky and too watery to have a uniform, homogonous flavor, texture and body. (See salsa heap in spoon picture below). We buy extra large salsas with our meals to use at home for almost anything!

Terrible service and even worse food! Out server brought our drinks, got our order, brought our food and that was it.. He never came back to ask how we were doing or if we needed refills.. When he dropped our food off I noticed my (normally brown) refried beans were almost WHITE (they were literally the same color as the white cheese on top of them) so I asked what was wrong with the beans and why they were so runny.. He said "those only beans we have" and WALKED AWAY! I'm telling you those beans were 3/4 water and 1/4 beans and had absolutely no taste!! Our cheese dip was half water as well... My chicken tacos had so much water in them that I had to drain the chicken and take it out of the shell because they were drenched and soggy... I'm guessing they're struggling and trying to make their product go further by adding water? Needless to say our server never came back and I had to go get him for our check...

Visited Rico's this evening to enjoy an amazing dinner and support an event benefitting the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Richmond. Started off with mandatory chips and salsa, with a side of their white queso. The queso was warm in temperature and wasn't around long at our table, because of how good it tasted. Main entre - I am a fan of fajitas, and the combo fajitas did not disappoint. The portion was quite generous, and made up of fresh mix of onions and peppers in a flavorful fajita sauce. The flavor of the chicken and beef didn't get lost in the balance of flavors either. Lastly we finished with fried ice cream. The presentation in a square, fried tortilla bowl added a unique twist. Thanks for supporting a great cause Rico's, and thank you for a delicious meal. We will be back!

Worst restaurant I have ever been to. I gave it a shot because of so many great reviews but pretty sure all the patrons were drunk when they ate their food... They had to be. I ordered a simple taco and burrito combo. The taco had what looked like a string cheese stick just laying on top, not even shredded cheese. Took a bite and the taco had zero flavor other than the shell. The meat literally had no flavor and neither did the cheese which was odd. I took a bite of refried beans and spit them out. The taste was horrendous, like they were burnt. My stomach instantly started to turn. The rice was soggy and again zero flavor. Also ordered the grilled chicken street tacos, daughter said they taste just like clorox wipes. My daughter wouldn't eat them and I tried them and sure enough, they tasted like clorox wipes. She instantly spit out her beans and started coughing because the taste was so atrocious. Needless to sat, we sent our food back. The fries in my littles kids combo were good and so was my glass of water. But that's about it. I asked my waiter to take the food back that we didnt want it and to just bring me a check for the kids meal and drinks. He brought my check back and slammed it on the table and walked away. I recommend one of the other mexican restaurants near by. I have no idea how this place is still...

Get together for family birthday. 12 of us. One person waiting on us as well as waiting on about another 10 tables. When I asked for fresh guacamole sorry I'm waiting on a lot of people and it may take a while. Four people's orders didn't come until after the others had almost finished their meal. Two items never showed up at all. Three people left our party and paid when they left and I picked up the remainder of the tab. Which they tried to charge me for their order that they had previously paid for. I believe we got the bill straight. They also wanted me to step aside so that they could take other customers payments. I politely said I'm paying for 12 customers you need to take care of my bill. This is only the second time that I've visited this restaurant the first time was a week ago with a large group and the service was wonderful. I really like the food at this restaurant however it's not my fault that they don't have enough staff. Very unhappy retired...
