I originally gave Sal's 5 star about 9 months ago. I am from NY and have almost 30 years restaurant experience. So my first time at Sal's I was Elated to find a place that had good pizza, and decent American\Italian Cuisine. Since my initial visit I have noticed a general decline in quility of food and customer care. It started about 6 months ago, I was dining in and ordered a large pizza topped with mushrooms, black olives, and pepperoni. Now on their menu it clearly states that Sal"s uses only FRESH mushrooms. What came on my pizza was obviously of the canned variety. When I mentioned this to the staff they had no clue they were canned, until a Latino fellow from the kitchen confirmed my suspicions. But his defence was that to get the FRESH mushrooms I must ask for them specifically. So they remade my order and to my distain I recived canned mushrooms once again. Only this time they gave them a quick sauté to give the appearance of fresh mushrooms. Are the folks at Sal's liars or just incompetent? But I wasn't ready to give up yet. So I gave them chance after chance and nearly every time I ate in or taken out. It has been sub par or they just down right got my order wrong. But this last adventure was the pervebial straw on the camel's back. I ordered take out as we are currently in the midst of a pandemic. A simple order for my daughter and I. Which consisted of a kids spaghetti and meat balls, and a small Italian salad add chicken and feta. When I got my order home. I found that my salad was just lettuce, feta, olives, and chicken instead of the Italian salad that I ordered. Also my daughters pasta was way over cooked "mushy" in her words. And the meat balls were more filler than meat they were like soggy meat flavored bread balls. Sal's needs to get it together before I or anyone else should attempt to eat...
Read moreWe were greeted shortly after arriving and told to take a seat anywhere on one side of the dining room. Not a few seconds after sitting down, our server, Candi came over and told us of the specials and took our drink order. When she returned with our drinks (and a pitcher of tea, which was much appreciated!) she took our order and said it should be out pretty quickly. After about 10 minutes, she brought our appetizer and a complimentary order of garlic knots. I'm guessing because our pizzas were going to take a little longer than expected. Another 10 minutes or so passed, and she brought our dinner. It was fantastic! There were loads of toppings, the dough hadn't been over-proofed, and it was steaming when it came to the table. Candi was incredibly attentive, even bringing us a box before we had the chance to ask her.
As for the 4 stars on atmosphere, it is a little dim and dated, but it was clean, which is most important! Overall, were very happy we'll...
Read moreI ordered a small pizza to go. When I arrive I can see the the person making the food was not wearing any gloves. He proceeded to place his hand into no less than 4 different ingredient's then wipe his hand on his shorts so his hand was "clean" to open the oven and put the pizza he was making in. I asked if this person does this often, and was told that he was in fact the owner of the business. At that point I asked for my money back. The server called a woman by the name of Maria over to process the refund. This woman had a nasty standoff demeaner and did not speak to me. I then again relayed my concerns to her about the sanitation of the food preparation and she stated that "it is ok, every body does it". I STRONGLY advise you to save your money or visit another location! This establishment is disgusting in the way your food is prepared and served. If this is the actions in front of a customer then what are the standards when no...
