There are a couple of words to describe this joint "Awful" "Misleading" and downright "Disgusting". Avoid this place altogether. This is NOT a Mexican restaurant, its more of a Taco Bell, appearing to be a mexican place, And just like Taco Bell, expect your food to be 100% "microwaved" in the back. You definitely wont hear any pots and pans or the standard sounds of an authentic kitchen hard at work- all you will hear is the industrial can opener and the sound of the microwave when your food is done. Nor will you see any mexican ppl, not that that is necessary, but just "Indian people" dressed in traditional Indian clothing (owning and running this establishment). Noting wrong with that either, all I'm saying is expect the "franchise" approach to food, not the genuineness of making food for humans. In other words, you will get your food in about 3 minutes prepared by the friendly microwave and served from "canned cheese" "canned ground beef" ohh and tomato cuts straight "from the can". I was fooled by prices the "authentic wording" on the menu BIG MISTAKE. I could only handle a small portion of the food. And even that small portion was enough to regret it both (stomach wise) and definitely (wallet wise). Ordered the "California Burrito Lunch Special" NOTHING california about it. Apparently, this Indian owned/Mexican establishment "defines" the California burrito as: (ground beef, "soaked" in bean spicy sauce, and wrapped in some tortilla bought at "Safeway". Whats the probem with that you ask? First off, heres my credibility I spent 10 years in Southern California surfing and living off of Mexican food. And a "California burrito" was of course created by the blend of california surf culture melding with Mexican food, so here is your authentic and most importantly your "standard California burrito": (Your get choice of: "freshly grilled chicken, shredded pork, or shredded beef, or the classic Carne Asadda" NEVER heard of ground beef version from a can no less. Next your "authentic REAL California burrito will include seasoned Pinto beans, or seasoned black beans from a pot, not a can, followed by Mexican cheese/queso fresco, followed by french fries,, that right French Fries, ALL rolled up in an "hand made" tortilla). And what will you hear in the background? You'll hear pots, pans, spanish, chopping knives chopping fresh onion, fresh tomatoes, fresh making fresh slasa etc, some music and this amazing aroma. You wont hear Indian ppl or microwaves, or can openers for every ingredient. If you like the food at "Tippys" you must be "tippsy" or you have no taste buds and you've definately never had real mexican food or been to "California". And no, I am not mexican hating on Indian ppl, Just a food lover hating to get ripped off by fake food, posers. This place...
Read moreSo let’s start off with the fact my boyfriend LOVES Tippy’s, but not this location. We have a ton of Tippy’s cups but this was my first experience at any location. The food was mediocre at BEST, but the salsa was abysmal. 10000% canned salsa, & we’re not sure what else they added into there but it gave a hint of literal tomato paste in appearance, texture, and taste. We actually opened up a jar of salsa from our fridge because even our favorite store bought was better than that. My tacos would’ve been fine meat quality & layers wise, but they weren’t crunchy because they were undercooked. The chips did not have a speck of salt on them. My boyfriends beef burrito was literally just a tortilla stuffed with beef no cheese or anything else. The way everything was also precariously placed in the bag was nerve wracking as well, it was a disaster waiting to happen trying to get my tacos out of the bag without breaking the crispy tostadas they were placed on top of. The lack of friendly service & the dated atmosphere would’ve been bearable had the food been up to par, but sadly we didn’t get that either. The cashier wasn’t rude, but wasn’t friendly either. Pretty sure this is a franchise & could just be location specific, whoever runs this one just doesn’t know what they’re doing or doesn’t care. This location is 5 minutes from our house but we would rather drive the 25-40 minutes to the other location for a Tippy’s fix. We won’t...
Read moreMy mom actually told me about this spot. She said back in the day she would visit for lunch frequently. This is back when it was in MD. We decided to try this place now that it's in VA... I'm glad we did. First off, the restaurant itself is small. This reminded me of some place one would go for lunch or for late night eats. Nothing fancy at all. The food though... I ordered the California burrito. It was absolutely delicious. The only thing I wish they could do is deep fry it. A fried situation is always welcomed. The nachos, the quesadilla. Really good! Honestly, if I lived closer I would probably be a regular. 😂 I would suggest, for the Spanish/Mexican food lovers, to give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. Although simplistic,...
