UPDATE #2: We were dumb enough to give them another chance, partly at the manager's insistence that next time would be better, partly because we were stuck with gift cards. Apparently they just instituted a new policy that only one gift card can be used at a time. You're joking, right? Customers pay good hard cash for your gift cards and now you want to dictate how they use their money? Completely asinine. Also, the food quality was still subpar. My veggie enchiladas were extremely undercooked. The zucchini was hard and the onions had absolutely no char marks. The picture on the menu shows perfect grill marks on the veggies. These seemed to barely touch the grill. My husband was also disappointed at the small portion size (compared to the price) of his carnitas and the fact that they were swimming in a sickly sweet sauce. Don't bother with this place, and especially steer clear of the gift cards. They have no idea how to cook or season food OR how to treat their customers. UPDATE #1: One day later, my husband now feels physically ill. Can't think of anything else it might have been other than the enchiladas... The service was good, but that was the only enjoyable part of our experience. The food and drinks were exceedingly mediocre, which is unacceptable given the price point. They didn't have any beers on tap at all. Bottled beers were $6.50. Cocktails were around $11-$15. The margarita tasted overly sweet and not fresh, like it was made with a cheap mix. Even our margaritas we make at home with frozen limeade concentrate taste better than that. The chips were inconsistent. Some of them were underdone, some were overdone, and many of them were oily, like they overcrowded the chip basket while frying. About half of them were practically pulverized, which made it difficult to dip them in the salsa. My husband's $18 beef enchiladas were dry and so incredibly salty that he couldn't even finish them, and that's saying something considering he loves salt. He often orders margaritas and licks all of the salt off the rim. This time, he couldn't finish the salt. I thought the meat tasted like Taco Bell meat, only saltier. He compared it to a sloppy joe. Both Los Toltecos and Senor Tequila's are cheaper AND better... will stick with those in the future.

We were in the [Ashburn , VA] area today, 26 Feb., 2018 and decided to try Uncle Julios after reviewing it. We usually eat at the Copperwood Tavern just down the street, see review. However, we're always searching for a new solid eating/dinning experience. We arrived at 11am and were the first through the doors. Seated promptly in a booth which we prefer. We noted right-off that not only were our seats torn/ripped and taped but those around/next to us as well (picture included.) Speaking of first impressions, from the outside and we have been by here many times, this whole area of [Loudoun One] has been developed to cater too a diverse and upper-scale community. Back to the first impressions; plenty of outside seating which appears to be a space which you can expect to enjoy your meal on a nicer day. The inside is very aesthetically pleasing with plenty of bright colors and earth tones accented in wood features and plenty of interior design fixtures playing to the South-of-the-border ambiance. We ordered the table guacamole which was made right in front of us and excellent, highly recommend if you are a fan of avocados! The main course was two carnitas tacos off the lunch menu with beans no rice and a Margarita of the day which was a fresh fruit pineapple and jalapeno on-the-rocks with salt, excellent! Also ordered the Carnitas Azteca. The food was fresh and served appropriately warm/hot and tasted consistently well on the palate. The bathroom was clean and well stocked which is always a plus. Well done Uncle Julio. The rating should be in the range of (4.0-4.2 stars) Consistency over time will be the test. Enjoy!

I definitely had a memorable dining experience at this Uncle Julio's. I ordered the carnitas fajitas and ate the whole jalapeno not thinking it was gonna be sooooo hot (because majority of the places I have been to that served jalapenos have not served spicy hot jalapenos). It definitely packed a punch and made me cry at the bar! Kudos to the bartender who acted like I wasn't just bawling while eating my carnitas. She also kept the chips and salsa coming and my drink filled, while I was waiting for my entree (which wasn't really that long of a wait). Service was for sure top notch. The complementary chips and salsa were pretty good. The carnitas fajitas and everything that came with it were delicious and flavorful. I would've liked more lime crema over it, but it was still pretty great. The portions are pretty good: as hungry as I was, I had to take some home (which is good for me for a midnight snack sometimes!). The restaurant can get loud, depending on who's dining close to you, where you are seated and the day/time it is. I came in on a Thursday night and sat at the bar fairly close to a big group of diners who were enjoying their night with a few drinks, so it was fairly loud, but I didn't mind. They were all animatedly talking about something and a couple of them had some entertaining takes on the subject. It's part of the dining experience! LOL. I enjoyed my dining experience at Uncle Julio's and will definitely come back.

I’m never the type to leave a review but after the experience my mom and I had at Uncle Julio’s tonight that left us feeling uncomfortable and honestly insulted, I feel I have no choice. We’ve come to this location for years now and have never had a problem servers are always nice food is usually good but tonight we decided to try something different. We wanted to try the fajitas because they always look so good so we put in an order of the chicken and steak fajitas because we saw they were a nice price of $26. Our server asked us if we wanted it for two because they have a for two option which is $46 to which we then responded we just wanted ONE that we would share. Our food comes out and I noticed it seemed like a bigger portion but like I said we had never ordered it before so we didn’t know what else we would get in comparison and again we had emphasized to our server that we wanted one and we would share it. Fast forward to the end of our meal we get the check and it $46 instead of $26, we then immediately knew that there was a misunderstanding and our server thought we wanted the order for two. Totally fine misunderstandings happen all the time but it’s important to know that we DID NOT intentionally order the fajitas for two so the most logical thing as this moment in time would be to take it off our bill because we had only ordered the fajitas for one. We explained the misunderstanding to our server very kindly and at this point it became pretty obvious she thought that we were trying get one over on her but she said she’d ask her manager. Manager comes over and we explain the situation to her and say how this was our FIRST time ordering this so we had no idea what the portion sizes were, she said she would get it taken off. She then comes back 10 minutes later and gives us the discounted check but follows it with a very condescending speech about how she will always protect her servers and how she will not tolerate any disrespect towards them. I then had to immediately jump in because I couldn’t believe she was insinuating that we had shown any disrespect. My mom and I ALWAYS treat anyone giving us service with the upmost kindness and respect and will even go out of our way to make them feel good if they made a mistake. I’m a server myself so the thought of treating any servers with disrespect it’s just something I would never do. The manager then says how our server said we were laughing or making fun of her?? I was getting so insulted at this point it almost made me cry because that is so far from who we are. My mom and I were having a conversation and laughing amongst ourselves it had NOTHING to do with our server we were literally so kind to her. What made me most upset was the managers tone while speaking to us, she literally made it seem like my mom was lying because she said we come here all the time and I said it was our first time ordering the fajitas. She looked at me and said “but she just said you guys come here all the time” in THE MOST condescending tone. We are black and I have never felt stereotyped or profiled as much as I did here tonight. She made it seem like we purposely ordered it for two so that we could pay less at the end. She even was like “yeah you guys can come back if you want (very apprehensively) but treat your servers with respect like how she treated you with respect” we literally did NOTHING but kindly address the mistake she made and asked for it to be taken off?? How is that disrespectful?? I don’t know who she thought we were but we don’t steal or get over on people and it’s hard to believe our race didn’t have anything to do with her assumption. Safe to say I am really disappointed with the service situation we had at the Ashburn Uncle Julio’s tonight and am disgusted with the stereotyping and disrespect my mom and I received while we were just trying to have a...

This was my 2nd time at this location and unfortunately my experience was less than enjoyable. We decided to take our 3 year old daughter here for her birthday.. made reservations and planned the night accordingly... upon our arrival our greeting into the establishment was less than warm welcoming... maybe considering it was raining and business was slow... we arrived about 15 min later than our reservation time... and I had already gotten confirmation that our reservation was canceled without a courtesy phone call to say the least. We Arrive and are seated directly in the back next to the restrooms...( my inner me said uh oh... but i continued to try and enjoy our evening) when our server... who we could barely speak English when he arrived.. he asked us if we were ready to order... no introduction.. nor welcoming us to the establishment... very off putting... I asked for a moment to look over their digital menu... and when he came back we ordered our drinks and the kids food... a 6 year old and 3 year old.... he brings out our drinks and then the kids drinks in 2 massive glasses....???? Mind you... yes our kids are vocal enough to order their on foods... but please tell me when you provide a child a drink in an adult glass without that being specified? They continue to bring us the kids foods... which was adult size and portion as well. In the meantime my husband then discovers a bug in his drink. At that moment we hadn’t even ordered our meals and the experience was on a rocky road. The server made it seem like a bug in a drink was no big deal and was something that easily happens... I’m sorry.. but that was enough for me. Based on this experience and my previous I do not recommend this location... I will continue to go to...
