Recommended by a local friend, we were not disappointed at this restaurant! Great, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Wide variety of items on the menu and VERY AFFORDABLE - we are already planning what we'll have on our return visit! 😀 my wife settled on the Cry Baby Burger w onion rings, and I on the lunch special Chicken Fried Steak. I have to say, the onion rings were probably some of the best we've had. She loved the burger and the homemade jalapeño bun. I thought the green beans were also tops on my list, and the CFS breading was just as tasty as the breading on those onion rings. However, the meat was about 80% the size of the breading. It was still so tasty it was good by itself! The gravy was nothing special, though. I wish it was homemade, but it tastes like a generic powder mix. Creamy, but not much flavor. All in all, this is a wonderful place, with the managers walking around greeting customers and attentive servers. We'll definitely be back !
UPDATE: We're back again, and everything was still sooo delicious! Nephew's Chicken was my attempt at a "lighter" dish (which it was!). The mixed veggies were cooked to perfection! My daughter's Steak Finger's from the kids menu were an awesome deal! That breading is out of this world! And the fried mushrooms probably the best we've had. Once again, thank you for another great meal and such great...
Read moreThe 1 and only issue we had was my sister said there were 2 of us and for reasons unknown, she assumed the people who came in behind us were with us. The waitress once told there were 2 of us put the extra menus and silverware away. It wasn't loud, but it wasn't quite as it was pretty busy.
The waitress we did get was awesome. She wasn't a nuisance always up under you, nor was she inattentive. She was perfect. Always ready to offer refills.
I was a little weary of trying to hamburger steak as unlike the picture, which was taken after I made it how I wanted. It comes with grilled onions layered on top. With ketchup, I didn't taste any of the onions.
The Mac and cheese I was not a fan of. It was too Gooey. Sticking to the roof of your mouth and nothing else, type Gooey. It was way too much for my taste. The mashed potatoes were said to be garlic, but it's so mild you don't even know it's there.
The rolls were given before the meal after you ordered.
My sister loved the Sweet Potato Fries. My sister had the grilled tilapia and I tried a bite it was way too slimy for me. She admitted it was and that fish isn't normally slimy like that.
Otherwise, it was an excellent meal. If we ever go back to Waco again, this will definitely be the place to eat. We had planned on breakfast, but by the time we got there, it...

While the Chicken fried steak looks large, alot of it is just extra breading on the outer edges. It is a 7 oz steak unless you order the large for $3 more and then they just give you an extra steak. I did this and had them pack the second steak to go. All in all, while not the best steak I've had, it was decent. I wouldn't recommend the side of sweet corn as it wasn't very sweet. The fries and rolls were just okay
My daughter ordered La Nina, which is a large baked potato, with chicken fried chicken pieces, smothered in cream gravy and topped with cheese. I tasted it and preferred the meal to my steak. I ate the half she couldn't finish, later that night for dinner. Very good leftovers!
Wife ordered the fish tacos and she said they were decent. She really liked the side of broccoli salad best of all.
Service was good and the manager did a nice job of walking the floor checking on tables. I went during lunch on a Saturday, so I didn't see many students, but there were many family's with small children, so don't expect a quiet meal.
All in all, I recommend it and will return on my next Waco visit, to try something else on the menu. I didn't try one, but the hamburgers looked...
