So here's the bad and the good about this place..
BAD: I've been living in Wake Forest now for over 2 years and Sushi Siam WAS my go to place for sushi but not anymore and this is why.. First off let me tell you I'm a foodie and eat here at least 2-3 times a month and usually always order for several people so we tend to get salads, a couple apps and 10-12 sushi roles at a time so you can definately trust this review. I'll say that I've seen a steady decline in the quality of their sushi/ sashimi/ fish/ seafood that they use overall since COVID started. It used to be VERY fresh, delicate, cut to perfection and never actually had any heavy fish flavor that we all know when we think about old, low quality seafood. Now, it tastes like they ran over to Lowes and bought some week old Tuna (not even Ahi or sushi/sashimi grade (not that you can even buy that at Lowes anyway)), sliced it up and used that for their sushi rolls.. To be honest, the past 2 times I went, I and the others I ordered for were not very happy with the quality of sushi. I figured 3rd times a charm and thought to myself "they were just having a bad day" but I went again 2 night ago for another large order and when I got home and started opening boxes, there was an overwhelming smell of fish and we tried to choke a few pieces down but we ended up throwing all the sushi away, IT WAS TERRIBLE! My girlfriend almost got sick for crying out loud..
GOOD: Beleive it or not but I actually never had any of their apps, salads, or entrees that were not sushi/ sashimi/ seafood style dishes so we figured instead of ordering all sushi (due to our past several experiences) we would order some of the Thai style dishes they had. With that said, we ordered summer roles, chicken satay, steamed gyoza dumplings, yum beef salad, chicken with garlic sauce entree, and the chicken panang curry entree. They were all delicious, aside from the panang curry whixh was also tasty but just a little gritty? I've had panang curry plenty of times from many traditional Thai restaurants but theirs always had a very smooth sauce so the cooks/ chef needs to look into that.. I think I will return to Sushi-Siam for these types of dishes but unfortunately after 3 awful sushi experiences I will unfortunately have to travel a little further to another go-to sushi place in Raleigh for my sushi fix.
To the Management staff at Sushi-Siam.. I would highly recommend that you go back to buying better quality fish from wherever you originally got it from or find a different distributor/ market because I'm looking at a lot of bad reviews over the recent months. I understand COVID is out there and maybe with the lack of business you decided to try out a cheaper alternative but its not working and your going to lose even more business moving forward if you don't correct the issue now. Instead of buying more amounts of cheaper, lower quality fish, you should buy smaller amounts of much better quality fish to keep your customers coming back and you know what? When you run out because its just so delicious, your customers will understand and will order a different roll or type of fish. At least they won't say, "we're never coming back here again"..
P.S. I've been eating sushi my whole life and I recently went to M-Sushi in Durham and if you want better sushi than you can get in Japan for heavens sake, this is an absolute must try! It's a little pricey but I promise if you go you will thank my review to no end. It's so smooth, rich, delicate, and delicious that it literally melts between your tongue and the roof of your mouth. You don't even have to chew it!! Also if you want to go all out, you can get their Omakase which is a 11 dish/ course meal which is a head chef inspired menu that he personally presents to you while giving you the story behind the dish, colors, and choice of ingredients as well as where they are from. It's truley an adventure for your tastebuds and a life experience that I've had twice now and will...
Read moreWent and got 4 bogo rolls. $45 for the meal. When the waiter finally brought our check. The total cost displayed was $45. Not bad great price. I go next to the tip option and the tips start at 18% 20% 25% 30% or something like that. I click the 20 percent without thinking then on the next screen it says order total is ~65. I do quick math in my head… 20% of 45 is 9…not 18. i click the back button 5-6 times as the lady anxiously holds the card reader, with a vibe of lets get this over with. Im like whatever ill just talk to the lady at the front, this lady seems agitated as is. So i walk to the front and i say. The tips arnt right. Where I'm met with my waiter yelling from across the store. “ what the problem” I say to both of them, the tips not right. When i met by 2 hostile remarks of “ITS OF THE TOTAL ITS OF THE TOTAL” I'm like total of what.? The place is about to close I'm flustered and at this point have decided they bought this google review with the extra $9 tip. I tip good enough with pour service, however we were only serviced by our waiter who received a 40% tip once. Being a young couple we expect to get subpar service compared to bigger groups as bigger groups require more attention and service. Completely understandable. The reason for the 1 star review is a combination of everything listed above the sushi is decent. Great for wake forest even. But to get little to no service, then blind sided by a broken tip menu (tried to press back a couple of times) that has the tip options as double whatever your actually spending then met with passive hostility when questioning the shady card reader was just a huge slap in the face of somewhere i just gave a 40% tip too…. Like what…? Didnt fill our waters once. Asked for our check from a different server (both our plates were clean for 7-10 minutes.) forgot to mention our waiter walked away during us ordering for i guess taking too long to decided between 2 rolls. ( no recommendations just anxious waiting from our…waiter.) rushed to order rushed to pay and rushed out (not actually rushed out). Overall it was a pleasant dinner. Without the predatory tip practice and lack of patience it would have been easily 4 stars. 40% tip to take an order bring out 2 waters and bring us the check. Laughable now. Frustrating and irritating then. Ill never go back to sushi siam and ill tell everyone i know to avoid it. Type of place where you feel bad for ordering a water and...
Read moreHate to give this place a bad review since I didn't get to try the food, but their take-out and customer service was terrible, and that's very important these days! Saturday night, my partner and I were headed to Raleigh Road for a drive-in movie and craving sushi, so we placed an order through Seamless for a few rolls at Sushi Siam. When we got there ~45 minutes later, an Asian male in a gray ISU sweatshirt told me our order was not ready. It was pretty busy/hectic with a lot of people waiting for their take-out orders, did not seem like a very smooth operation. After waiting about 15 minutes I was getting antsy because we were late for our movie, when I asked again about about my order through Seamless I was told "Oh, we don't do business with them anymore". I was pretty annoyed, because this was the FIRST online payment platform offered when I placed my meal-- how many people have definitely had this problem before?! I left pretty hangry/annoyed. My partner called the restaurant immediately to (very calmly and politely) tell them that Seamless is still listed as a payment platform, and that they should remove this in order to help their guests. The guy in the ISU sweater picked up (I recognize his voice) and very rudely kept interrupting my partner to say "what do you want" and "are you a customer or are you Seamless". Finally my partner asked to speak to a manager (since this guy clearly wasn't getting it), and the guy said "Just place your order again through Doordash" and HUNG UP ON US. It was really rude, made us late for our movie, and we definitely won't be coming back here. We called Seamless ourselves and reported that Sushi Siam needs to cancel with them... though I don't think we owed that restaurant any favors, don't want this to happen to...
