We've known Rico for a while. He's a family friend. Before trying his restaurant, I had heard how absolutely spectacular his food was. Being a big foodie, it was one of the first places I tried when we moved back into town. 6 years later, still in love with their entire menu. The marinara sauce is made to perfect with a perfect sweet to salty ratio. Everything is made to golden standards. The shop itself is immaculate and very clean. It's a great spot for a quick stop for lunch or for catering to you and your loved ones. I, personally, am a fan of his pizza or meatball sub with mushrooms. Not many places offer fresh mushrooms OR canned mushrooms but they leave the choice up to you! My husband's a spicy guy and loves to test his limits for spice. When I ask for them to make his spicy, they hook it up everytime. They won't have you waiting too long and if you ARE waiting, the conversations are wholesome. Honestly the environment is very family friendly. So. Whether you need a quick bite, a snack or just something sweet- they are the people to go to! The pricing is great for all the hard work they put into each dish. Rico, thank you for being amazing and having the best staff on the planet. We can't get enough! You HAVE to try the brownies! Being 5 months along with a baby boy, he can't get enough of chocolate and the brownies were just what I needed for my drive home! So much love to...
Read moreTHE FOOD IS GOOD BUT PRICING IS UNUPDATED OR THERE ARE HIDDEN FEES. There is a something messed up I noticed when I went there twice. A zingy? Chicken sub on their menu costs $10.50. I order and the total comes out to around $12.71? or so? (I payed 13 and got a quarter and some pennies in change) That doesn’t make sense given Michigan’s sales tax of 6%. If everything was correct, the sub would’ve cost only $11.13. So how did it get to around $12.71?
The answer is they must’ve forced a 15% tip or the prices on the menu are wrong. Option 1: Forced Tip pricing 10.50 + (10.50 * 0.15 tip) + (10.50 *0.06 sales tax) = 12.705. Close enough to the answer. And it also answers why they didn’t give me a receipt after ordering if so. Option 2: Menu prices are wrong and the sub is actually $12 12.00 + (12.00 * 0.06 sales tax) = 12.72 Very close or spot on. I just didn’t count the pennies so actual total might be 12.71 or 12.72.
This is pretty dishonest pricing. There’s two reasons for this price discrepancy. Either the sub is $12 and sales tax (12.72) or it’s 10.50 with an effective 21% tax (12.71).
Either way it’s not updated or disclosed so if you go here be prepared to spend a dollar or two more than what you think the actual price is....
Read moreWe all have a favorite sandwich shop that we compare all other sandwiches too. For me that's Schnitz's Deli. I was hoping Rico's would be competition.
I did my normal of ordering 2 sandwiches so I could have 1/2 of each and save others 1/2's for another meal. I ordered the Memory of Thanksgiving and the Chicken Salad Sandwiches. The Memory Sandwich is turkey, stuffing, and cranberry. It was good, nothing Earth shattering, but good. The Chicken Salad Sandwich was below average. I mostly tasted Celery, then Bread, then mayo. Sadly I've had better at Family Fare. As for both sandwiches they were tiny. About 1/3 the size of Schnitz's for the same price.
The service was good.
Overall I'd rate it as 3 stars. Would I go back? If someone else wanted to then probably. Otherwise...
