Can't count the times we have been to Sombrero over the years, took my triplet grandchildren there along with 5 others for their birthday supper last night. It took almost 40 minutes to get our food, had ordered a bowl of cheese for the kids to dip their chips in they all just kept saying it's too spicy. The salsa was really hot! When we finally got our meal the sauce was wrong on one of the orders so they took it back and scrapped the red sauce off and put cheese over it instead of remaking it. The child's burger was way over cooked and was supposed to be a cheeseburger, they brought some shredded cheese out 10 mins later and of course the burger was too cold for the cheese to melt. The tortilla soup was just verily warm and spicy. 5 of the 8 orders was the shredded chicken that was extremely spicy. One of the other children had a chicken taco took one bite she said too spicy and never picked it up again! I finally asked the waitress did you get a new cook? She commented no, why? I told her that every one that a meal with the shredded chicken was too hot to eat! So another 20 mins went buy we got ready to leave and told the waitress we did not want to go boxes!, I guess the young lady that was acting supervisor came over and noticed all the uneaten food, she's like how was everything? ( owner was not there last night) Told her that everyone that had chicken couldn't eat it! We figured she would have discounted the bill some, not! Just paid it and left and left the waitress a nice tip any way in no way was the food problem hers. Look I know we live in south Louisiana most people expect spicy food, can't tell you the times we have ordered these same items over the years and never had a problem! Hopefully it was a one time fluke! Just wish it had not happened on this occasion and also a out of towner first time to the restaurant. Owner came back to my review to say we truly care but apparently not enough to...
Read moreUpdate: Feel free to read my original review below BUT as of about 20 minutes after my post the GM Tommy called me and messaged me. He got my number form when I placed my order and decided to call me immediately. He apologized for the experience and insisted on making things right. My wife and I are going to try their food again but just the customer service alone means a lot to me hence why I changed my review. Even if we return and the food is not what we prefer they deserve an A for effort! Thanks Tommy for caring about your business and your customers!
Original Post People were pleasant but for 40$ the portion for two meals was smaller than preferred but beyond that the food was far from what we expected. NOW GRANTED we just moved from central Florida and our expectations of Mexican food is probably a bit high.. with that being said I got the three enchiladas dinner.. it was two chicken and one beef.. the white cheese sauce on the chicken was very bland but they were not “bad” overall.. the beef felt gritty and it was slathered on top of my enchilada as well as inside it.. seemed more like hot dog chili beef flavor and texture wise. My wife got the fajita nachos and while she did remove the sour, jalapeño and the guacamole she did expect some lettuce and tomatoes (we should have read more clearly so that is on us). Hers had simply a few large tortilla chips covered thickly in cheese and some grilled chicken. She ended up spicing it up at home to make the best of it.
I considered going back to the restaurant (as we ordered to go) and saying something but instead figured a fair review worked. If you want true true Mexican then in my humble opinion this is not the spot if you know what real Mexican is like. Best wishes to the place as everyone was nice and I am sure it fits the bill for most people locally but for me I will make my enchiladas at home until I find the spot that fits my...
Read moreI always fear coming into a restaurant by myself because I am worried that I will be treated differently or forgotten by the waiter I have. I have come into here before with family and never had a complaint so I thought that popping by for lunch would be great, that I would be in and out since they weren't really busy. Wrong. My issues didn't start until just after I ordered. My waitress at first was super kind and I was like oh this will be a good visit. I ordered cheese dip, 1 cheese enchilada, 1 side of rice and 1 side of beans. Easy and should be fairly fast. No. when I got the cheese dip it was barely warm, the chips were cold and you could tell they had been sitting out a bit they were kinda stale. When it came to getting my food I watched her take 2 tables order and drink and deliver food and then it was oh let me see where your food is like i ordered a lot. I waited like 12 min for what I ordered and when I got it she was like oh the plate is hot so I figured it was fresh fresh but the cheese ontop of my enchilada was already hardening like it had a film ontop . when i started eating it the cheese inside had already started to solitify too. Sad to say i couldnt even finish my food. 18$ for that was not worth it. I dont think...
