Placed a to-go order here for $40 for two people, but since I couldn’t remember the name for the non-roll fish-on-rice-mound sushi, placing the order was an ordeal as they apparently couldn’t understand my various attempts at explaining that I wanted the shrimp on top of rice that isn’t a roll and generally come two to an order. Once they figured it out, I received a lecture on the proper name though I’m sorry to say my brain now forgot again in an act of protest.
Once I arrive I’m asked if I’d like to pay now though it might be “5 to 25 minutes” before the food is ready. Since we’re already well past the initial estimate and I have things to do, I ask for a more exact estimate as I might need to leave. Well, turns out the food is ready, they just need “someone” to come bag it up (above this guy’s pay grade I assume), but I’m finally handed my order. It’s a medium sized brown bag stuffed to the max with sushi trays and a single packet of chopsticks on the side. I ask if I can have another set and if there’s soy sauce in the bag. Yes, he says, I can have one more set of chopsticks and there are two soy sauces in the bag. Can I have more, I ask. Sure, how many, they say, and it will be 50 cents for each extra one.
Yeah, no. I’m not paying more for soy sauce packets. My order contains 4 rolls and three orders of nigiri (I remembered!!) that my husband and would eat with one packet of soy sauce each, if we didn’t have some at home. We later learned that they make the tiniest sushi you’ve ever seen, but it still wasn’t...

Read moreRecently in Walker for a quick King Cake handoff, and realized I was hungry. Turned into this place almost without thinking about it. I’m a low-maintenance guest anyway but the place is comfortable with a nice aesthetic. I couldn’t decide if I wanted miso or clear soup more, so they mixed them for me! I also tend to love any roll with mango in it, which left me with a couple options on the menu. The Hawaii roll, however, offered sweet potato inside and maybe I’m crazy but I’ve literally never noticed sweet potato inside a sushi roll before so I went for it. To my surprise the sweet potato was fried tempura-style giving it a nice crisp and a little warmth. The meal was perfect for my quick stop. Definitely...
