El Rancho Restaurant — Restaurant in Walkersville

Wanted to try this spot, so made a trip from Frederick on a Saturday evening for dinner. Our family of two adults and a toddler were the third table to check in. Madison was the server. We let her know that we were ready to order food when she stopped by to drop the drinks at the table. She said she was going to come back, but 20 odd minutes passed by before we saw her taking order from a table that had checked in after us. Either this place doesn't follow First Come First Serve or we were just Discriminated (felt like more of the later to us). We waited for another 10 odd minutes, before deciding to leave, as we had a hungry toddler who was getting fussy. As we were leaving she showed up and apologized sarcastically. We were excited to try this place, but they couldn't earn our business. Neither we are returning nor recommending this place to our friends and families. 2025- Updating my review after a couple years! Still nothing but great things to say, but celebrating because they have now added chili to their offerings! My husband is a huge chili fan and a harsh judge! He gives their chili 5 out of 5 stars and now hopes Alex will add hot dogs to the menu so that chili cheese dogs become an option! With the recent addition of drink options like beer and margaritas 🍹 it's a great choice for dinner too!

2023 -Best all round restaurant we have found in years! At most restaurants I find one menu item I like and stick with it. At El Rancho I have ordered multiple different items and NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED! It is clear that the owners (Alex and Jose) put a lot of care (and love even) into everything they make. We have had the breakfast there at least 10 times, my wife and I. It's been excellent every time. Well worth the trip, reasonably priced, big servings. Usually we get seated and served very quickly. Very happy with our experience for breakfasts, anyway. I just stopped in today for dinner, and was mildly disappointed. The cream of crab soup was fair at best. It wasn't bad but it doesn't quite get the good rating just average stock. I ordered a bowl of nachos grande whatever and the amount of avocado and cream was barely a dab of each. Clearly insufficient in my book. I asked for some extra sour cream, and it took a while to get there. Again, this dish was okay but really not that great. I will say the breakfasts have been great even when I've ordered them at dinner time it's just this one experience set them back...
