99 Restaurants — Restaurant in Wallingford

The 99 Restaurant was a pleasant surprise for me. I generally skip chain restaurants for being bland, boring, and offering institutional (read cafeteria) type foods. But I must say my lunch here was very good. As good, or better than some of the mom & pop diners in the area. I met up with an old buddy for lunch, and this was his choice of places to have lunch. I started with a bowl of seafood chowder that was creamy, and had plenty of small pieces of fish, clams, and potatoes. Not bad at all! We both ordered the fish & chips. I was a little apprehensive, because I've ordered that in other diners that don't specialize in seafood, and have gotten one of those thickly battered, long time frozen "fillets", that is more batter than fish. NOT the case here. I was again pleasantly surprised by the nice portion size of deep fried, breaded, not battered, fillet. It was more than acceptable. After all of this, I still had room for a summery dessert, so I asked for their strawberry shortcake. It came in a deep glass dish, with plenty of sliced strawberries on a biscuit, with a nice, unexpected scoop of vanilla ice cream, and topped with whipped cream. It too, was very good, and a pleasant surprise. 1/18/24 Thursday was my first time eating at the 99 in wallingford and have to say my experience was great, for whatever reason I bypassed this restaurant 100s of times and I finally gave them a try and service was amazing, I believe if I'm going by my receipt the waitress name was unique p. Her service was great from the greeting and lite conversation and how attentive she was, her service seem genuine and sincere, she made us truly feel like it was a pleasure to have our service. Now the food caught me by surprise, lately I've been to a number of restaurants and food has not lived up to the price or expectation and before coming here there was only three restaurants that I would highly recommend but now after having this flavorful delicious meal and a wonderful experience this is another highly recommended restaurant added to my list . I want to start by saying that I am not one to write many reviews. However, after several bouts of disappointment with this location, I find it necessary to make other people aware. Do not order from this location if you have any food allergies or sensitivities to certain foods. Despite making the request at the time of order for NO CHEESE to be put onto my order, no dressings, or have them on the side etc - these requests are never fulfilled. This has occurred 3 separate times, with 3 different menu items when placing a to go order. This most recent time (today, January 6th at 11:30AM) the person who took the order even stated to me on the phone that the toppings for salads, including dressings, are "always put on the side." Lo and behold, when arriving back to the office each time, what should I find but my order smothered in crumbled blue cheese and dressing. Terrible accommodations, inconsiderate of those with food intolerances, and I will never be placing another order from them again. A whole meal dumped...
