Dad's has become a dining institution in Wallingford, and for good reason. They offer great basic breakfasts and lunches without emptying your wallet. They also seem to have a very low, almost non-existent turnover in waitstaff. Those same very personable women have been serving up that great food for many moons. That's always a good sign. I'm what would be called a semi-regular customer. On my latest visit, my tummy was telling me that blueberry pancakes were what I'd be having that morning. Tummy also said that some Vermont sausage would be mighty good too. OK, OK, Tummy! I hear ya'! So, along with a good cup of coffee and my usual large glass of grapefruit juice served ice cold (mmmmmmm), I ordered those up. Did I mention that I am a rather rotund gent, but as big as I am, I've never been able to finish a plate of their "short" stack of pancakes? Two of these '59 Cadillac hubcap sized monsters make a short stack. For the life of me, I can't imagine eating a tall stack! Anyway they're always very light, fluffy, and chock full of blueberries, and served with a huge amount of real whipped butter that's needed to coat these river rafts disguised as pancakes!. The Vermont sausage links are very large, and full of flavor with lots of sage in them. Awesome. Every breakfast I've ever had at Dad's was top shelf. Try it! You won't be...
Read moreAfter getting something from McDonald's for breakfast, I was driving down the road and saw a spot called Dad's. The place looked interesting. While I had already purchased breakfast, I decided to stop in. I walked in and was greeted right away with a friendly smile & hello. The greeter asked me if I was picking up? I said no, and then she asked me if i wanted to stay or to go. (I started humming, "Should I stay or should I goooo..." In my head) As I looked around the small but quaint restaurant that also offered counter seating. I decided to sit at a booth. A waitress came right away and took my order. It was basic two eggs, French toast with sausage. I asked if the coffee was complimentary or came with the breakfast, and the waitress replies no with a hint of "that would be nice" on her facial expression. It would have been nice since it was Father's Day(well, weekend). This place was definitely a place where everyone knew everyone. I mean, after all, I was in a small town on my way back to NYC. It would have been nice to meet Dad, considering it was Father's Day weekend. Hey dad, next time, come out, make your rounds, and remind customers why it's called Dad's... Dad's is...
Read moreWent here a couple weekends ago and forgot to write a well deserved review. I was just browsing through Groupon and saw a coupon for Dad's and got excited and clicked on it. Started reading Groupon reviews of Dad's and came across ONE that said the food was bad; which reminded me I never left a review. So here I am to say that anyone who says Dad's food is not good, is just a miserable person looking for any reason to sh!+ on the world around them. Dad's Restaurant has got to be one of the best Diner style restaurants I've ever been to, and my girlfriend and I have been to a ton of diners in our almost 10 years of knowing each other (and I in multiple different countries over my life). And Dad's is definetly one of the best! Service was excellent also, and very comfortable enviroment. I highly suggest everyone GO EAT AT DAD'S!!! p.s. On our visit we had: shared cinnamon roll pancake (AmAAzing, it might have just been an actual cinnamon roll that was flattened haha and huge), she had broccoli n cheese omelette w home fries (ate every bite), I had bacon n eggs scrambled w cheese (perfect), and the cornbeef hash (can't even express to you in words how good it was)....my mouth is...
