Mr. D's — Restaurant in Wallingford

This place is AMAZING! Went here last year to get gluten-free cupcakes for my wife's birthday and they were delicious. In the past year my wife found she has more food allergies besides gluten and it posed a challenge finding a good cake for me this year. After calling several places to have a gluten-free and dairy-free cake made, I became discouraged since many places were not able to provide this type of cake for weeks out. However I called Mr. D's and asked if they could accommodate and the did SAME DAY. I immediately got my order in with Samantha who was friendly and helpful, and told me the cake would be ready by 5pm. I was excited and relieved. On a whim, I called around 3:30pm, just to make sure 5pm time was still good and to my surprise they told me my cake was done! This couldn't have worked out any better!! Needless to say, I picked up the cake, got home and we celebrated my wife's birthday with a delicious gluten-free and vegan chocolate cake with coconut filling and frosting. The icing on the cake (pun intended) was that my wife commented on how beautiful the writing on the cake was. My friend brought us bakeries from them. They tasted wonderful. So I decided to go there and see what they have. Unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to buy anything because quiet frankly the owner or whoever the man that was their and claimed to be the owner of the business is a “proud” RACIST. He talked to me in a very disrespectful and derogatory way to a point that I didn’t know what to say and had to leave, the man was standing in my face literally and no one did anything in fact one other older man chimed in with him. I’m giving them 2 because what I tasted from my friends basket was good and despite the fact that the staff was running around like headless chickens ( unorganized and chaotic) interrupting customers because they had something to say to their colleagues, they were somewhat...

The ice cream is delicious, especially the Beez Kneez. The reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is because of the staff. It's a bunch of high school girls who are clearly annoyed to be there. When you order a certain size ice cream, you never know how much you're actually going to get. Sundaes are unenjoyable because the toppings tend to be dripping all down the sides making everything a sticky mess. Also, plan on getting there at least 15 before closing time because closer than that severely limits your options since they start cleaning/closing up so they can basically leave at close. They will not give you a milkshake if it's too close to close, which is a bummer when you've been looking forward to it...
