I took the trip out to Scoopy’s in Wallingford, CT to place my ice cream consuming skills to the test with their MEGA Scoop Challenge; an impressive 14 scoop ice cream sundae adorned with 6 toppings, 6 cherries, 2 sauces, and whipped cream. This $50 mountain of dairy confection is free for any brave soul capable of consuming it all in under 14 minutes. So far, only two competitors have successfully finished the monstrous bowl within the allotted time. Confident in my speed and stomach capacity, I boldly approached the counter to place my order for the Mega Scoop! I eagerly watched as the large metal bowl rapidly filled with scoop after scoop of 14 various flavors of my choosing. After I chose my final toppings and sauces, I watched the final succulent touches get generously poured over the mounds of ice cream, creating a glorious sundae spectacle one would only dream about.
Armed with a giant metal spoon, a mini plastic spoon, and a ravenous appetite, I took my seat and plowed through the entire delectable dish in 7:30 earning me a free meal, a spot on their wall of fame, and a radicle t-shirt.
Huge thank you to the Dan, the owner for letting me film there and an even huger thank you to Macy for assembling the greatest ice cream sundae I’ve ever eaten that was absolutely LOADED with toppings. The additional Butterfingers made my inner 8 year old giddy...
Read moreThis is a lovely little new-ish ice cream shop in the Yalesville section of Wallingford. The shop is brightly lit with typical tables inside and out. The summer time outdoor seating attracts bees which takes away from the experience if anyone in your party is scared of or allergic to bees. The flavors are yummy, brightly colored when appropriate and the fixin's selection is good. No freezer burnt experiences yet. Outside the scoop shop, a few doors down, you can find a koi pond, water display. Not sure if it's seasonal but the kids liked it. If tables are dirty it's due to inconsiderate customers and the crowds. During a recent trip there, we saw a guy devour the Scoopy's Challenge. Prices are reasonable and portion size is good. Take your time in the parking lot, whether driving or walking to car... lots of kids and possible...
Read moreI’m all about ice cream and I’m always looking for a good spot. I’ve tried Scoopys three times and was really hoping to love it, its 2 minutes drive from my home, but its just okay sigh I tried 6 different flavors and none have full flavors. I dont know if this makes sense but they’re like milky or bland. Theres no depth in the flavors and they are really sugary. There should be a good balance of flavors, a clear distinction of what the flavor should be and not over sugared to compensate for the lack of ingredients. Its a cute clean place and the servers are very nice. Lots of space inside and out to sit and enjoy and lots of parking too but the ice cream is under whelming, just meh. I will be sticking to Durham Dairy Serv. Almost a 20 min drive, outside drive up, no tables, hard to park, always a line and...
