The Gilded Curtain — Restaurant in Wallingford

We were excited to attended this new facility. However we were given an almost 2 hour wait time.we waited for our time to come up. We were texted that our table was open for us. When we arrived at location within 10 minutes of texting they stated that only half the party could enter facility leaving 3 of party outside. Owner was rude and not accommodating along with the staff that was working the door. We traveled to come see this location from far and we will not return due to lack of owner ship with understanding the importance of a waitlist even after being texted.

Edit: Feel free to review your camera footage- which will show our party right outside glass door next to your front desk. Also please review footage to hear your employee telling us that there are a few places to go up street to kill some time while we wait for our table to open. Never telling us that first seated will be people that wait on premises. You were correct we arrived with a party of 4 originally. If your staff wrote down an incorrect party size- I am unsure of- but that is not on us. When we received the text saying our table was ready we responded saying there was an additional person. We were NOT told to continue to wait where we were and that she would check and get back to us. So we headed over there. I get that it is a busy time and I also understand not being able to kick people out. It was more the fact that you couldn’t care less that we waited around for hours and was then told by you, the owner, that you “don’t follow the waitlist” which to me absolutely leaves a bad taste in my mouth because it means your customers time doesn’t matter to you. She should have been upfront telling us if we leave premises that others that wait inside will be seated first and waitlist will follow. This was not at all what was told to us feel free to review your footage.

I would never bash a small business for unreasonable or unrealistic expectations. This was what happened.

If you see on my google account I NEVER leave reviews. I felt that this WAS something that should be addressed and hopefully you are able to fix moving forward. That is the point of a review. I was in not rude to you in the review but stated factual information. What are you saying with editing the video? What does that even mean? Sounds threatening to me, so I would be careful how you speak to people. That sounds “childish” as you referred to me. I was upset when we re-entered the facility after being informed this information. As I’m sure ANY person would if their name was placed on a waitlist for almost hours and then told the waitlist means nothing by the owner. Now I know how you run your business and this type of establishment is not for us....

Went once with some girls for a birthday celebration and it was great, or so i thought. WE WENT AT A BUSIER TIME. THERE WAS A WAITLIST. WE PUT OUR NAME DOWN FOR 4 PEOPLE. We waited 50 minutes to get the text that our seats were ready. They had made a mistake and our reservation was for 2 people. We asked how long for the rest of the party and they didn't know. I understand people need to leave before new people could enter. I understand accidents are made and she accidentally put down we originally were a party of 2 not 4, but the owner telling us they don't pay attentive to the list is where it went down hill fast. Although the girl working the desk admitted she made the mistake only putting a party of two down and not noticing our husbands who were with us. She didn't ask how many in our party and we assumed she saw our husbands were with us. So when we got the text our seats were ready, we texted back that we had one more person to add. When we got there she did apologize. Unfortunately the owner was so rude saying they don't pay attention to the waitlist because "often times people put their names down and don't return". However, we put our names down and we did return, immediately closing our tab from where we were a half block away. They made the mistake of the wrong head count and accidents happen. They offered to allow half our party to go in, but not the other half until more room became available, but admitted that could be another hour. I understand they made a mistake, but the rude owner drinking at the door is why we won't be back. The solution they offered was weak but the best they could do given the size of the place and splitting up our party for we don't know how long was not an acceptable solution. the girl working the door genuinely felt bad, but the owner being so rude and kept cutting her off while she was talking and telling us we should have waited on the sidewalk for our text (that took 50 minutes) and just overall very rude and arrogant. I would rather eat bad food at a place with good service vs good food and deal with...

I grew up in Wallingford and tend to stay away because I have “done it all already” BUT THIS was SO FUN!! I saw the business on Instagram and planned a friend date to check it out.

As someone who works with the public I SO APPRECIATE the lady in the front clearly explaining their rules and expectations without hesitation. No one wants to be told it’s a 10 month wait and wait 30… so her honesty it would be a 30 minute wait and we had to stay close was a simple rule to follow.

My friend and I didn’t think twice about waiting. We hung around and as soon as we were called we went in and were immediately greeted by our waiter.

They have a variety of drinks and a few appetizer food options. I opted for the antipasto skewers and a gin inspired drink. My friend got a margarita. She said she loved it and it was delicious. The skewers were delivered in a container from the CT Natural Food Market— LOVEEEE. for a local company to support another local company is awesome and if anyone knows about the Natural food Market they have amazing fresh food. I also loved a healthy food option and I could take home what I didn’t eat. 10/10

Drinks were fabulous!

We had 2 different people check on us see how we were and they seemed genuine.

We didn’t have a huge tab so I thank you for not rushing us out the door.
