Lack of transparency and common decency make A Sweet Affair irrelevant to me and my wife in a shopping center full of new food choices:
The poor quality and small portion of food is a gamble depending on the day. They charge a 4% surcharge on credit cards but don’t disclose this or provide receipts. Undisclosed price increases not listed anywhere. There is no air conditioning, creating poor environment for sweating staff. This is why food is spoiled. Probably why the employees were short tempered and irritable today as well. They closed the restroom to the public permanently (saying it never existed) and sent us wandering to other businesses to unload after having our stomachs wrecked by what I presume is unhygienic preparation. They do not clean the tables. Crud all over the outdoor tabletops. The chicken salad sandwich is unchewable, full of tough unidentifiable pieces as if they grind it up with beaks and claws. The bacon in the blt was downright raw. Someone must have agreed because there was a piece under the table on the ground at our feet. I have been in plenty of times over the years to witness the slow decline and they never address me or know my name. No menus or online presence with updated prices, no salt and pepper shakers on tables to season bland food, no silverware, napkins or even plates due to obvious cutbacks. Online ordering is buggy. Overworked employee angrily yelling out people’s names for their orders at an unrefined volume. Every 6 seconds opening the door and rudely yelling in our ear.
It’s the uncomfortable equivalent to dining on a BART train. Folks, if you cannot afford to do business in a modern world, don’t...
Read moreLet me just start by saying I've never left a review for any reason. I'm writing this review to praise one of the managers there.
I ordered a salad with a few modifications. I was on my lunch break and hurried out so I wouldn't be late clocking back in. When I got back to work I checked my receipt and realized I'd been over charged plus my order was wrong.
I immediately called the store and explained what happened. Jennifer was the manager on duty. She listened and offered to comp my next salad. I was appreciative and said Id be back the next day to take her up on her offer.
When I arrived my order was already ready to go. He began putting it in a bag then stopped and asked me to check the order to make sure it was right. It turns out there was a minor detail that was wrong. I was SO grateful that he asked me to check! Do you know how mad I would have been if I got back to work and it was wrong again?! Good call young man, good call!
The moral of my story is this: "stuff" happens. We are all human beings and mess up from time to time. But sometimes you can recover with great customer service, even if you mess up more than...
Read moreFour years ago, I ordered a cake for my sister. She’s a cop (I know), and when she graduated from the academy, I wanted to surprise her with something fitting - a giant donut-shaped cake. A Sweet Affair delivered. This chonky masterpiece was funfetti-filled and probably weighed 25 pounds. It was hilarious, over the top, and genuinely delicious.
Recently, I went back to order a small birthday cake for her. While browsing, I noticed one of their featured cakes had a Simpsons theme. I casually asked the clerk if they could stick one of those small pink donuts on top of a red velvet cake as a running joke between us.
To my surprise, the chef went above and beyond. Instead of just topping the cake, they made a mini version of the original donut cake - a baby donut cake. Complete with bright pink frosting, it was just as funny and somehow even more charming. And of course, it was delicious. Sure felt nice to be remembered and I hope the chef enjoyed making it as much as we enjoyed eating it. We’ll be talking about this for...
