This dog park is big, although, there isn’t grass but tan bark and a circling path for yourself to walk to on. People who are regulars are almost always attentive to their dogs and communicate well to the behavior of their pet. The dog park offers tennis balls, which is usually lying around to use, as well as toys that you can give to your dog to offer them best time. You can bring your own toy, but be prepared to have other dogs want them! The park offers water buckets which you can take and fill at the front with the hose, plus an additional water fountain for both dogs and humans which is great. In the small and big dog areas, they provide ample dog bags—quality ones might I say—spread across the park for people to use if one does not have a bag on them. It’s usually busy in the mornings around 10 to 11am then around evenings after dinner, plus there are places to sit such as numerous benches hidden in shade depending on the time of day. (Picnic tables are available.) It’s quite relaxing, being that there is nature surrounding the place. Even an owner’s pet can have their fun and exploration while one can walk around the park for exercise! Bathrooms are not within the dog park but is available further down the parking lots that isn’t too far of a walk. The park I would say is well maintained, for on Thursdays, they clean up the loose bark that tend to fly off. It’s an overall enjoyable dog park with explicit rules to be followed, and I think it is suitable for any dog that loves to play, wants to run, or plainly observe and enjoy being in...
Read moreWe love this, and go every Saturday morning, even though we don’t live in Walnut Creek. Big park for our big dogs next to a little park for a little dogs under 30 pounds. Plenty of benches some shade mostly wood chip mulch throughout. In the small dog park, they have a little structure the dogs can climb up and jump down from. I wish they had some water features in the middle of the park, but that’s probably because it’s California and not Illinois where I’m originally from. There’s plenty of parking, and across from the parking lot is a beautiful little pond with lots of vegetation and a trail that goes around it that you can walk your dogs on. This dog park backs up onto the Contra Costa Trail and there’s a spur from the trail right to the entrance to the dog park so you can walk your dogs and let them play in the dog park unleashed. Heather Farm Park itself is huge and has a very large playground. It has a swimming pool huge picnic areas and baseball fields where lots of teams play so there’s plenty to do and see while...
Read moreBe careful! Owners don’t correct aggressive behavior showing complete irresponsibility in their duty as pet owners. Not uncommon to see people on their phones or doing “exercise” laps paying absolutely NO attention to their animals. These are the same people that don’t clean up after the animal due to their focus being elsewhere.
Yesterday, Jan 22, 2022, an owner (guy with a light blue sweatshirt sitting with a woman on the bench) of a young aggressive husky allowed his dog to go unchecked with repeated attacks and my dog. I had to keep walking between the husky and my dog in efforts to deescalate the aggression. My dogs left ear ended up getting split open by the husky at which point we left.
If you are going to a dog park, please be present and tend to your responsibility which is your dog and not your social media feeds, email, phone call or doing your selfish “exercise” laps.
I will never take another dog...
