Let me open with Fat Jacks is one of the best casual dining restaurants in or around Walterboro. Generally this is a very consistent establishment and does not suffer from some of the problems as Ruby Tuesdays or some of the other chains in the.
This review only reflects a single visit, but this is in most of the locals' opinion, one of the best places to eat in town. I work in Walterboro and after seeing how some of the other places are, this place is still stands high above them even though I would still only put it at about 4 stars. I'm told I hit it on a bad day in conversations that I have had.
Staff standing in dining area a lot, kitchen super-fast... granted as it was around 2:30 in the afternoon. Wait staff looked like college kids...not a lot of energy. They did their job and that's absolutely all they did during my visit, but I'm sure it is different at dinner.
The burger I ordered is the best I've had in ages. Certainly, the best one in Walterboro that I've had so far. Everything was well constructed... The corn flour bun was great. It kept everything dry, and not gooey and greasy, the beef was cooked correctly (no raw hamburger when I asked for med well done...). The fries were good, the burger wasn't overloaded with dressings
One thing. JACK - PLEASE **The ketchup is terrible... Like the real cheap kind you get in a school lunch, over sweet, and so red it looked like watery barn red paint.
(It took about 10 minutes after arrival to get used to the smell of old mop water throughout the building...
Advice to manager: Please tell the kids to change the water before they smear is all over the floor and stink up the place... it was so bad it was almost a deal-breaker. Everything looks clean otherwise...)
I would recommend and I will return, it's just a shame that I have to grade it 4 stars, because by normal standards it's average, But, for Walterboro it is the best they got, and it is safe on a bet if you're traveling or going through town in a hurry.
This is a very consistent, good place to eat with a great menu with salads, fish, great steaks, etc., which are hard to find in and around Walterboro, especially...
Read moreMy husband and I were looking for a yummy and unique restaurant with healthier options on our way to Florida from Virginia. We took exit 57 because it looked like it had a lot of restaurants so we figured we'd see if we could find a nice place to try. Pulled into the Walmart parking lot to pull up our maps and check around us. We saw Fat Jack's as we pulled in. I barely glanced at the menu before we decided this was the place to try. We got seated right away (visited on a Thursday night at 7) and ordered our drinks and food pretty quickly. Didn't have to wait long and oh my goodness I wish I lived closer so i could try everything else. It was hands down the best steak I've ordered at a restaurant in years (please don't be too harsh if you order steak and it's not the best steak ever when you try...everyone has good and bad days....I was also very hungry when we stopped 😁). my husband got the grilled scallops, collards, green beans and hushpuppies. I ordered my steak cooked medium (cooked perfectly), a sweet potato and fried okra. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS!!! And I also ordered 2 mixed drinks. One called Frozen Alligator and one Lava Flow. The Frozen Alligator was a surprising new and different drink I've never tried before. The Lava Flow was very delicious too but similar to drinks I e had before so the Frozen Alligator was my favorite!! My husband loved their classic margarita. Very happy we stopped here!! Our waitress was so sweet and fun to talk to!! I wish I remembered her name. We talked about travel and her fun fishing trip in Florida. She was awesome!! Highly recommend everyone stops by and...
Read moreFirst time trying this spot as I am not from walterboro. I ordered the lunch special: Hamburger with Onions and gravy, with green beans and rice/w gravy. I also ordered a frozen drink, a shrimp appetizer, and mild wings . When I came in the girl at the front didn't notice me and had to get told by a fellow co worker that I was there. I got sat by the window which didn't bother me. Ordered my frozen drink and water with lemon. Then I made my order (one stated above) my shrimp app came out first of course (other than my drinks) it was an 8/10 more cheese than shrimp but still good. I then proceeded to wait about 10 minutes a older woman and her care taker come in and are seated next to me. They place their orders. I'm still waiting about 25 minutes have passed and the same table next to me got their order before I did. Which I don't see how because I was there BEFORe then and even ORDERED before them when my food FINALL,Y came out (the waitress even said it ) the food was dry, the gravy looked like old gravy you scrap from the side. I then ask her why did it take so long to prepare my order? She tells me it's because of the chicken wings I ordered and that they only cook the hamburger "cook to order" so why wasn't the gravy fresh? And why was the hamburger dry? I immediately told her to take it back and that it wasn't suppose to take that long. This will most likely be my last time coming here.
The 2 stars are for the drink and the cake I...
