New mochi donut shop + kroffle spot in the GBA!
The Mr. Monut team definitely got the formula right to succeed. The spot is located in the heart of GBA suburbia, the quality is right and the aesthetic is also 👌 for photos which we love! Definitely a great addition amongst the other dessert choices in Waltham.
Parking is street parking out front which shouldn’t be too hard to slip in and out.
We ordered a dozen mochi donuts and 2 kroffles. I’m basing on the 2 kroffles and the black sesame donut I just had.
Blueberry cheesecake waffle is less cheese and more light lovely blueberry whipped cream with plump fresh blueberries on top.
Manga cream Kroffle has a coconut whipped cream topped with mango, very much giving Thai vibes.
The mango one I had was fresher and I imagine due to moisture, these tend to loose their crispiness overtime. If you want wait for fresh to devour immediately, do it. The kroffle is a bit dough forward super buttery flakey which I think made a great stable kroffle. If I were to step it up more, I’d love for them to find a way to get crispy caramelised bits like a liege waffle. That’d send these to outer space.
The mochi donut is good. I think amongst the other shops in the Boston area, they are in the middle of the spectrum in dryness to texture. So anyone who is craving mochi donuts would be satisfied. I think flavours wise they go with some good classic pairings but I hope in the future they try to seasonal rotating...
Read moreGoing to Mister Monut was a welcoming experience, even after being soaked in rainfall. When we went in, we were pleased to see several food items such as monuts, kroffles (to my knowledge, kroffles are croissant shaped waffles with toppings), fried chicken and drinks. We got the Taiwanese house special spicy fried chicken combo and a black sesame monut, taro and coconut monut, a matcha monut and a pink strawberry-tasting monut with a chocolatey spiderweb for Halloween. We didn’t try a kroffle, but if I went next time I definitely would! The monuts had a nice texture and flavor. Would eat again! I personally preferred the taro coconut out of the 4 flavors we tried. The presumable family working there was timely, and if we peeked around the counter, we could see them freshly frying our chicken! They gave us a tester of the chicken too, and we didn’t even ask! Very nice servers!!! The chicken was nicely juicy with good spice and crisp. The fries were nicely seasoned and crispy and they served the combo nicely warm. As I said, the servers were very nice and the location is easily accessible. The shop was clean and they were extremely environmentally friendly, the only plastic they gave us was the lid to our donut box. Also very well branded. The logo was cute and nicely branded, picturing a chef leaning through a monut. The monut container, despite being plastic held up in the pouring rain, despite being plastic. Overall great servers,...
Read moreI’m really disappointed with my experience. It doesn’t seem like they make any fresh products. I stopped by early to pick up a dozen donuts and croiffles for a party. I arrived at 8:30 AM—an hour after they opened—and there still wasn’t a full selection of donuts ready. I was asked to wait.
I also inquired about coffee or any hot drinks. The woman at the counter was kind but didn’t understand my question, so she asked someone in the back—likely the owner. Unfortunately, the owner wasn’t polite and curtly told me they don’t serve coffee and weren’t making croiffles that day, even though it’s listed on the menu. She even gave me a dismissive, condescending smile, which was unnecessary.
I just took my donuts and left. When I opened the box, I found they were frozen—not fresh at all—and due to the humid weather, they had become soggy and wet. I ended up having to throw them away.
Sadly, I can’t recommend this place. I felt...
