It is unfortunate that I have to edit my review for this wonderful little restaurant on the square of the cozy little town of Walworth, Wisconsin. I have been patronizing it for 8 years and when family comes to town and ask where we can get great food that won't break the bank and fills you up, Sammy's is always the go to for me.
However, Wisconsin is currently under a mask mandate which I strongly agree, comply with, advocate for and am passionate about
There was no sign on the door indicating any mask mandate was in effect. I was given a menu that a non-mask wearing customer was leaning on who was oblivious to the waitress attempting to pull the menu out from under her elbows as she had a conversation with another customer not wearing a face covering. I was seated in a crowded dining room while the other side of the restaurant was almost empty adding to the low level of social distancing being utilized. After being seated, I stopped counting at ten customers being let in and seated without masks on. A maskless waitress was allowed to wait tables and 4 additional customers walked in and crowded the counter where you settle your check waiting for their carry out orders, also mask free. Several other patrons were roaming the restaurant without wearing masks. This was in a span of roughly 45 minutes as I hurried to finish my dinner so I could get out of a potentially hazardous Covid zone. It made me nervous to be near such a disregard for masks and social distancing that I almost asked the waitress for a to go box 15 minutes into my visit. It was also a bit unnerving to see the owner of the restaurant not asking customers to mask up and allowing a customer facing member of the staff to disregard the proper protection.
Again, it saddens me to have to rewrite my review and lower the star rating from 5 to 3. The food and service are top tier bar none. However, in these uncertain times, during a pandemic, we need to be ever vigilant. I hope to return to Sammy's when the precautions to stop the spread of a potentially deadly disease are taken...
Read moreDecent restaurant in a southern Wisconsin small town. Honestly, options are really limited around there so this is one of the best out of what you have to choose from. Lots of server turnover which makes one wonder why? Hard to work for?? I imagine so.... Anyway....They do a perfect Southern Wisconsin Cuizine that is basically bland, barely seasoned if at all, cooked to death and just really really OK. Just like every other restaurant in the area to be honest though. So like I said, it's decent and one of the best in the area, just adjust your expectations. It's not like your in Chicago or another city with lots of competition and lots of people. The place is very clean and nice inside and the servers have all been nothing short of amazing!!
...Also, I was being extremely generous with this review months ago because I do like a total of 2 items you have on your menu out of no less than 20+ items I have tried over the last 2 yrs. And because most of the staff has usually been pleasant and moderately helpful.
Some advice would be to buy better, fresher produce and hire cooks that speak English and know how to use seasonings and can make new recipes and the right way. I'm sorry if my review upset you in some way but 3 stars is still a pretty...
Read moreThis past early June marked the very first time dining here and was actually a delightful experience.
Only the 2nd time ever being in town, the first time was a few years back when I took my family on a ride which was secretly a slow road trip to Lake Geneva.
Anyways, we ended up having breakfast here because my wife had ordered a birthday cake from a popular cakery in town and I mentioned to wife that I can't see driving an hour to pick a cake up then head straight back home so breakfast it was.
Julie Michelle had recommended Sammy's even though I had already Googled "breakfast restaurants in Walworth WI". That's one thing I don't get to have much is breakfast out with my wife alone, luckily my folks agreed to watch our boys while we were out.
We've been to plenty of breakfast/lunch venues both in IL (we live in NE Lake County) and WI both local and franchise but the food here is better than most we've eaten at and my wife & I noticed the coffee was notably flavorful than any other we've been to.
Sammy's is probably the most popular family restaurant in the area and glad we could stop in, always like supporting small local businesses. I wish for continued success & prosperity for...
