The Sussex Sit ‘n Chat Diner transports you back to the past with a retro look, but new and updated menu with gigantic portions! They have a ton of ice coffee and milkshake flavors! If you’re feeling extra fun, ask them about their breakfast challenge! #sussexnj #newjerseyfood #njeats #foodchallenge

I’m not one to leave reviews, but I felt like I had to with the new owners. I went in and ordered an omelette. It came out 40 minutes after ordering with raw chunks of onion (which whatever, mistakes happen). As soon as I left, my stomach was aching. Turns out I had gotten food poisoning from the food, so it’s definitely concerning enough for me to make a review. This never happened with the old owners, so I just wanted to give fair warning to whoever is going to try this place out. We witnessed customers walking out due to orders not being placed in the system. The owner had denied this completely while also acknowledging that this party’s food was not getting worked on after 30 minutes of them waiting. I’m curious if that’s why our food was also delayed as well/ rushed (remember, raw onions in my omelette), but it is what it is. I also took a peak at the reviews/ responses from the owner since I was curious after my experience here. The responses have been unprofessional at best, and I truly hope that this place gets their act together soon. I was a regular customer here previously, so it’s a shame to see all of this after just a couple of weeks of this diner being open with new ownership. Having a response from ownership starting with “lmao” whether this was a paying customer or not is not right in my opinion, and certainly does not show good leadership. I’m sorry to leave a bad review, but I truly believe that they have earned it after my experience here today. UPDATE: The owner has completely deleted her response to this post. Please see the true personality of the woman running this restaurant in the screenshots below with her original response to my criticism above. I also have a screenshot of an ex employee review that she had taken down. I have also been blocked on Facebook due to the fact that she’s determined to believe that I am not just a paying customer, but somehow have a relationship with the previous owners by writing a well deserved bad review. To clarify, I absolutely do not have a relationship with the previous owners. I just went in as a normal paying customer to try the place out after having new ownership and was very disappointed at the entire experience.

Please see UPDATE below. The Sussex Queen has been a favorite of mine for decades, conveniently located on Rt.23N. They serve-up classic comfort food fast and at reasonable prices. Service is EXCELLENT as is the food. The wait staff, some working there as long as I can remember, are exceptionally friendly and attentive. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Sussex Queen! 😎 UPDATE: After DECADES of comfy meals and familiar faces, something has changed... Sometime around the end of September (2018) a new owner took over managing the Sussex Queen, and re-named it the "Sit and Chat Diner". I understand some of the staff from the original Sussex Queen remained on, but I don't know that as fact yet. Will update again when more is known. Best wishes and love to the original staff, and all the best to the new.

I can't say enough about how good the NEW Sussex Queen Diner is! The new owners have brought it back to its original glory. We wanted to get brunch after church. Our church is not exactly around the corner, but 40 mins away. We pass many eating establishments that we could of stopped at, but chose The New Sussex Queen Diner. WHY? Because it's The Best!! Andrea & her staff greet us with a smile & a big welcome ask where we would be comfortable a booth or a table. The woman that seated us was as happy to see us as we were to see her. Ray arrived promptly at the table to greet us asked what he could get us to drink. Waters with lemon our favorite then coffee for my husband & tea with my meal. I wasnt sure what to pick everything looked so good. Ray made a suggestion & bingo it was exactly what I would of Picked had I seen it amongst all the delicious healthy choices. This Diner is spot on with efficiency & delicious food. The Diner is clean The utensils were so clean you could still feel the heat & the steam of being freshly washed coming right off them. We have been here 4x & what we ordered was hot & delicious!.I liked it so much when my friend wanted to take me out to lunch for my birthday & asked me to choose Sussex Queen is where I picked. She loves salads wraps soup & again SQ delivered to what my friend ordered. We both had a wonderful conversation with the new owner. We both enjoyed her so much my friend didnt want to leave. But I had errands to run.

I feel like Iam walking into my Mom & Dads dining room for Sunday dinner. Where you can not only eat. But spend time with your family members enjoying a delicious meal talking laughing in a great atmosphere. Sussex Queen is out there doing what they do their very best, Making great affordable meals for...

The food is tasteless, and the toast consistently comes out burnt. I dined in and I was served with flavorless food and burnt toast. Figured maybe a hiccup so I ordered out another time and they messed up the order and the food was tasteless and dry and burnt toast was yet again served. The previous owners had way better cooks, they should’ve at least kept the cooks from before. I won’t ever order from there again went to Cafe Dolci for breakfast and brunch, otherwise I’m going to cow patty’s or newton diner. Those are the best hands down!!! Staff is nice but can get busy and they forget you. The hostess with her long nails doesn’t even know what’s on their own menu when I ordered something she gave me a substitute when I said I’ve sat here and had them cook it. She apologized and had to reorder saying, I didn’t know they made that. SMH. Dessert is Gross. The cakes are STALE and look as if they were sitting for months. My 9 year old gagged when he ate it along with me so if a kid doesn’t like it— it’s pretty bad. He loves cake. The muffins and pastries look like they were purchased from a corner store wrapped in plastic- how tacky. I would rather by dessert from ShopRite- fresh and more appealing. COFFEE there was watered down- just terrible. This place needs a major makeover from 1980 to 2025 - they need better seat's, lighting and decor- you walk in and it’s dim and gloomy- just not a good place to...
