I was a customer of this bakery for years and grew up with their treats and cakes for special occasions. When it came time for my Grandfather's 90th birthday, I knew I wanted to use them! Picking up the cake was fine, but they didn't want to open it and only showed me the bottom half. Something in my gut told me to look at it fully when I got home. It was not at all designed like how we discussed in regards to color scheme, but I could live with that. The issue was it was the wrong message.
Thank God I did because it said happy birthday Grandma!!! This was the absolute wrong person and would have been a depressing memory for him on his birthday as she is no longer with him. Now, I had to return to the bakery to get this fixed. Not once did any of the employees apologized for the mistake of inconvenience, putting me behind schedule to arrive to the party.
The "manager" at the time took 20+ minutes to fix it and never apologized once. When I pointed out it was their mistake, she blamed the girl who took the order and did not leave good instructions. Train your employees better or have a prewritten form so this doesn't happen to anyone else. The attitude from the employees was beyond rude over the experience as if I was asking too much to have the cake I paid for addressed to the right person.
This bakery was my favorite, but I will never give them my business again. I expected...
Read moreI'm not of Dutch descent so maybe this place would rate higher if I was feeling nostalgia for bakery items from Holland? I'm not sure how this place has stayed in busines so long? Everything is just ok. Not bad, not great either. Just sort of uninspired but there. The employees are friendly and welcoming, but even the interior is just sort of.....ehhh... there and bland. There Dutch Apple pie, you'd think would be there stand out, but honestly it's just sort of, ok too. It's not dirty inside but it does look dated and very much it's age. They are located in sussex County, farm country, surrounded by fresh produce and apple orchards so you would expect some stand out items with so much bounty to choose from but, no. I told my wife I was going to review this place and give it 3 stars, so she asked to try a cookie and a piece of apple pie. She tried them both and looks at me and says their not bad?! So I say back, but is it great? Would you go back? Would you go out of your way to go there? Would you tell friends they should drop by? All I got was a blank stare and then she repeated, but there not bad. Sorry, but that's the best I got,...
Read moreVery disappointed about this Bakery. We drove 1.5 hours specially for this Bakery and bought over $85 dollars products.
The bread went bad in like 2 days. Mold all over it! We also saw mold on the cheeses that we saw in the counter (and btw I did really saw mold on your cheeses, please don't tell me that it was something that was "overlooked" I'm not stupid)! Also your other products are bad quality! We received damage products and the bread was like 2 days old and already had fungus so that still didn't explain why it had fungus, even if you don't use preservatives!
We also bought "Jan Hagel Cookies", I asked the girl behind the counter if they were soft and she told us it will get hard in a few days, this is also such a lie, the cookies are still soft (why would you lie to your customers??)
Very disappointed, i wouldn't recommend this bakery...
