It's physically a disgusting mess, The place manages to smell exactly like a moderately well maintained men's room which is okay for a men's room but leaves something to be desired in an eatery. HERE IS THE DEAL with this place, it's open till 2AM and Chinese food goes really well with alcohol and whatever other types of mind alterables you may be enjoying at 2AM. The food is alright, It's Americanized Chinese food, stay away from anything claiming to be seafood and you'll be good, I've been going here for years and I've gotten sick or anything. I call the service great because they make food at 2AM and they do it fairly quickly, I've never had them deliver, I hear it's slightly less reliable. Portions are also pretty good which is nice because cold noodles go really well with a hangover in my opinion. The best thing about this resturaunt is that there are two giant mirrors that stare you down while you wait for your food and make you re-evaluate your whole life and what lead you to where you are now, drunkenly stumbling into a smelly Chinese food dive at 2 in the morning on a Tuesday. Those mirrors gave me the perspective I needed to sign up for some college classes, so I guess I'll upgrade the Decor from Poor-Fair to Good. I'd...
Read moreGreat place for your standard take-out Chinese. The quality is a bit higher than I expect from this type of restaurant, and the service is surprisingly friendly. I'm used to abrupt, sharp communication at Chinese take-out restaurants, but the person taking my order at China Chef always seems to be friendly, pleasant and more relaxed (both, the younger guy and the older guy). It's a nice change from the norm. They are open pretty late, which is convenient.
The beef teriyaki is actually tender, and the chicken fingers have chicken from end to end (rather than a huge puff of batter with a tiny piece of chicken buried in the middle). General Tso's chicken, Tangerine chicken, egg foo Yong, the curry dishes, Peking ravioli (pan fried), Crab Rangoon and boneless ribs are all very good.
The only thing I'd change (and you can probably request this)... If you order a combo with sweet and sour chicken, they cover chicken fingers with the sauce in the container. The sauce should really be in a small container on the side. I never ordered it again after that mess, but while writing this, realized they would probably separate the sauce, if asked. They are nice people.
I recommend China Chef if you're looking for Chinese take-out in...
Read moreWhat a waste of time! I was home sick and tried to order from them and asked for two lunch specials. A host answered the phone and I asked for one sweet and sour with lo mein, one 9-5 special with pork fried rice. She asked me what two appetizers I'd like and I told her. Then she said we don't carry the 9 to 5 special, to which the person behind her corrected her and said yes I can order that. (I should hope so, it's on the menu..) She told me one hour and I asked for the charge and she said $30, which should have been $16 plus tax based on their menu. When I asked why, someone else took the phone and began speaking. The woman angrily told me I ordered extra apps, and I should read the menu that it only comes with one. I told her I have the menu in my hand and asked her to please re-place the order, there must be some confusion and she told me I need to know what I want when I call and said I didn't know what I was talking about. Um..excuse me?! I told her that I didn't appreciate her being rude and she hung up on me. I called back asking for a manager and an apology and she told me she wouldn't let me speak with her, she's too busy.
Are you...
