This is definitely not your father's gym. For starters it's purple and yellow...everywhere! Unless you are a LSU or Jamaica Plain High alum the colors will take some getting used to or somehow ignored. It doesn't smell like a gym nor does it sound like one either, i.e., no rock-n-roll music on the radio. Most people wear headphones anyway.
The main reason for the low rating is the lack of free weights. There are no free weight bench presses (normal, incline, or decline). All bench presses are either Smith machine or a machine. The Smith machine bar is only 20 lbs and they do not have a lot of 45 lb plates. Heavy squats and dead lifts would be difficult to put together. Also, there are no free weight preacher curl benches just one preacher curl machine and only one leg curl machine.
There are four separate areas from the main gym. One is a 30 minute workout area, another for abdominal work and stretching, a premium level area ($$) - all machines, and a cross fit area. If they eliminated two of these room and stacked it with more free weights I would give Planet Fitness a better rating. However, their target market is obviously geared toward people who want something different in a gym. They balance this with a lot of machines: treadmills, bikes, and stair-masters.
This is the only gym in town aside from the YMCA which is far more expensive. Membership at PF is $10 a month with a $36 initiation fee. They could do better and patrons could achieve better gains as free weights require more intrinsic muscle movement than do machines (it's harder). A steam room or sauna would...
Read moreMy name is Nicole. So on February 4, I forgot my red beat earbuds on the treadmill. I called planet fitness immediately to in form the staff member that I forgot them. He immediately retrieved them and told me he placed them in the lost and Found bin. So the next day when I went to the gym at five in the morning, the same staff member was there. I asked him for my earbuds when he went into the bin they were not there. He said oh my God there must've been stolen/Given to somebody else. I asked who can I talk to to help me? He said the assistant manager will be here at 9. I called back. I spoke to the assistant manager She was Extremely rude and not cooperating on helping me get my answer she said I don't know what to tell you. Basically I asked her for corporate number. She said we don't have one. I asked her for the owner's number. She said we don't give that out. I asked her name she said her name was Carissa honestly I think she's the one who stole my earbuds. I asked her are you gonna take down my name and she HUNG UP ON ME if the owner see this can you please reach out to me your staff is extremely unprofessional, They are ruining your reputation for wareham Planet Fitness. Read morePlace has gone downhill since Scott left. I’ve been a longtime member of this Planet Fitness location, even before working at a PF for a short time. I’m very familiar with the gym’s policies, including those regarding guest usage.
Recently, I was approached by a current manager (Casara) who told me I would be banned over a minor issue. This was not only unprofessional but clearly very personal and not in line with any actual Planet Fitness policy as I’m aware of them all. Threatening to ban someone instead of having a respectful conversation is completely inappropriate and just childish.
Planet Fitness markets itself as a “Judgment Free Zone,” yet people who genuinely want to work out are being made to feel uncomfortable by staff who are clearly not upholding those standards. Not to mention she goes out of her way to give me dirty looks and then flirts with my man. I understand the company has been struggling to find managers, but hiring a kid who behaves like...
