An honest review. Wanted to check out this spot I heard was new. Convinced my family to try something other than the usual chain restaurants (i.e., Cheddars) after church. We arrived and were quickly greeted by the hostess. I was impressed by the decor it was beautiful, and there were lots of photo ops for a cute date night or gathering of friends. We snapped a couple of pics and were quickly seated. I was hopeful the effort that was put into the decor would carry throughout the entire experience. Our server was great she took our drink orders and returned promptly with them, and then we ordered and waited. And waited. And waited...we arrived at 1:07 and ordered by 1:15pm and the restaurant was not that busy. 3 of the entrees came out at 2 pm, and my dish did not arrive until 2:12pm. By that time, most of my party had already eaten most of their food. My dad complained that his waffles (he ordered chicken and waffles) were cold, and he wished the syrup was warm. I did not like the specialty drinks we ordered. I got the bon v. It was strong enough not watered down, but it tasted a bit like cough syrup. I asked for a different drink but was told they would not switch it out but could make it stronger or add more juice, which I didn't want. Overall, I think this place could be a really cute date night if you have plenty of time to wait for food or are in it for the vibes. They really need to work on getting the entrees out within a reasonable time and particularly serving the entire party at the same time. Also, you can pay by scanning the QR code on your receipt. I liked that, but older patrons may not like that aspect.
Cons: Sticky floor, music was just a tad too loud, Bon V drink tasted like cough syrup, food service was slow, expensive.
Pros: The server was attentive, soul food special was delicious, portions are generous, decor was nice.
Food: Chicken and waffles (1 regular, 1 red velvet) served with chicken wing would prefer a chicken breast, but flavor was good. Big back breakfast sandwich was the cheapest option at $10 but a good value as it was a large portion. The bread was french toast. Soul food special was the star. Came with oxtails, mac and cheese, greens, and sweet cornbread. Oxtails were tender, fell off the bone, and flavor was very good. Some fatty pieces but overall a good amount of meat. Greens were well seasoned and cut thin. My mother complimented them, and she's a big critic when it comes to greens. Mac and cheese was good, and cornbread was moist and a beautiful golden brown.
Verdict: I'd come back on a leisurely day, perhaps during the week with friends I want to catch up with and nothing but time to kill. Try a different drink or stick to coke products and get the soul...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe ownerās attitude & unprofessional business mentality is the reason why 8 women & their sphere of influence wonāt dine here again. As a group of us dined in, I ordered teriyaki salmon. The teriyaki, I preferred on the side(it was prepared that way for another guest in my party who did not ārequestā it to the side so unexpectedly I received it on my fish. I sent it back, specifying it to the side. The waitress, understanding to the concernā¦but then the owner presents to introduce herself as such & delivers to me the menu & same food stating sheās not willing to remake it, & I will keep it, & pay for it because the menu states it to be āteriyakiā salmon. I reiterate to her as expressed to the waitress.. This is my 1st time here, I see clearly stated, āteriyakiā salmonā¦AND We both see this order of teriyaki salmon my neice placed & clearly see the teriyaki on the sideā¦.She didnāt request her teriyaki on the side, so since it was prepared that way for herā¦I didnāt think to request it considering itās the same menu itemā¦.nonetheless, I donāt want teriyaki sauce! She argues the matter like a bossy boss, insisting I take it as is because the menu states itās teriyaki salmon so I should have known the sauce was on the salmon & something about wings and knowing the wing sauce isnāt on the side????(No, really I canāt comprehend when people take the subject left field to support why weāre over in right) So(despite the 1st salmon order at the table being diff) I decline the teriyaki salmon I donāt want, havenāt touched or willing to pay for so she proceeds to tell me iāll need to leave since I donāt want it/willing to pay for it. The group opts to leave too at which point she threatens to call the police, and makes a call stating a customer didnāt pay for their food. It was a disappointing...

My party of 4 ordered the mini quesadillas which seem to be precooked shrimp because they were a bit chewy, the chicken was decent in it and the sauce seems like the sauce that they use for everything else. The chicken tenders on the hot honey tenders plus waffle were almost definitely frozen out a bag. The only thing that actually seemed to be prepared at notice was the order of oxtail and pasta. Although I saw the lamb chop lollipops and the broccoli on it seemed a bit too brown for my liking. It does seem like they have everything pre done or microwavable if you will. Cuz nothing was just steaming hot. And as for the lemon drop drinks only two of us had drinks and we felt nauseous afterwards so we're not sure if it was the food or the drinks. The price of the food was definitely overpriced. The advertisers were about $15 and you got maybe 2 or 3 oz worth of food. The bigger entrees started it at least 15 and went up to a good $30, $35....But the customer service was absolutely attentive and approachable. All the staff was pretty kind and polite. I do feel like they need to work on the atmosphere and the noise level, because it was quite loud and if you have a sensory issue like I did it was very hard to manage in building. The building is so seemed a little sketchy but it's very pretty on the inside What I suggest this restaurant to other people not necessarily maybe during the weekday but not...
