Oh how I love living in Detroit sometimes. Live in an ethnic hodge podge with an international airport like this, and you just get good ethnic diversity in cuisine. Amarin Thai is one of those little gems that results. Live in this town, and you can have truly great Thai, Mandarin, Vietnamese and Japanese along with decent Korean, not to mention the outstanding options from around the globe to be found in the area. It's just one of the advantages of living in this town.
Amarin Thai is kind of special. We wanted to hit Big Boys, but there was a wait, so we decided to give this place a try. We already had a go-to for Thai fast food when we wanted pick up or delivery, so I was naturally a little skeptical. I'm not one who loves change if I found what I like. I do not regret the choice.
The restaurant has good seating and a comfortable atmosphere. Its staff is polite and friendly, and its menu is widely varied with all of what you would expect in a thai restaurant. On a lark, I decided I would try the Chicken Satay, assuming that the peanut sauce was on the side. I am normally a great detester of peanut sauces or cooking with peanut oils. So, when the Satay came back drenched, both I and my spouse had a momentary pause as I decided if this was a good idea or not. One bite, however, was a little slice of heaven. I stress. I do not like peanut sauce. I don't know why, but it does not sit well with my stomach. It means about half of all Thai cooking is usually inaccessible to me. But these were delicious and the sauce just a perfect texture and flavor that it did not get me the wrong way.
The dish itself was outstanding, and very much what we would expect of a mid to high end Thai restaurant. The food was excellent in general, and we will without question be returning here the next time we are in the mood for Thai specifically. Prices are reasonable, as well, so if you're in the market for Thai, I recommend this...

We entered the restaurant and were able to pick a seat anywhere we wanted to. We were greated by Ghen, who was very pleasant and a warm a hello) She asked us what we wanted to drink and returned promptly with our drinks. My dad decided on the #19 (Chicken with Fried Rice) and I decided on a #50 ( Sweet and Sour Chicken with broccoli without the green onions). We gave our order to Ghen and it seemed like only five minutes tops our food was on our table. It was fresh and warm and looked delicious. It was what I was hoping for since my dad is on the hard to please side when it comes to choice of food or going out of his norms.
We sat and enjoyed our food and conversation as it was not overly noisy so my dad could hear me converse with him. All the while Ghen checked on us and how our meal was. That was appreciated and she even offered to refill my drink (Pepsi products) without having to ask at no charge. I only state this as it is usually at most restaurants refills are free but I have come across some that are not.
The meal was very good just a tad different than I was use to from other Thai restaurant I have been to. In all though, I know why this restaurant is popular for a lot of the surrounding area and from when I was by there during the middle of week it look like a lot of GM's personal dine there. I would recommend coming here for lunch or dinner.
They have several booths and tables and places to sit. Especially for people who are wheelchair bound. So don't shy away as they can accommodate everyone.
Bathrooms on-site. Handicap parking. Entrance is double door to go through. Check hours and phone number in the posted pictures. They also...
Read moreI ordered carry out from Amarin a few months ago & the food was delicious so I decided to order carry out there again this evening + try a new dish in the process. I ordered the Pad Khing/Vegetarian (no meat, add cooked bean sprouts + fried garlic, Mild+ Spice) + 2 orders of Fresh Rolls. My friend ordered the Snow White w/Shrimp combo (zero spice). My friends order looked fantastic & he throughly enjoyed it. My order on the other hand, was totally incorrect, flavorless & falling apart. The manager that took my order was friendly and engaging. I asked her to repeat my order to confirm that everything was correct and she did. When the food arrived, I opened up my Pad Khing Vegetarian order and it was swimming in chicken! Also, there were no bean sprouts & no garlic. I called back to speak to the manager & she said she would remake it correctly for me. My friend went back to pick up the order & this time the dish was vegetarian but unfortunately, there was barely any cooked bean sprouts, no fried garlic STILL, seemingly NO spice and this dish was completely flavorless. #TotalBust
I thought the Fresh Rolls would redeem this messed up order but alas, when I picked up a Fresh Roll, it slit in half lengthwise on the side and all of the ingredients fell out!! All 4 Fresh Rolls fell apart this same way. Though the ingredients were delicious, the rice paper that the Fresh Rolls were wrapped in was gummy, rubbery and inedible.
What a waste...a complete waste of food and a waste of time, and TIME is not something that can be remade. I will NOT waste any more of my time ordering from...
