Many things are fantastic here: The fun, open, beautiful buildout promotes a festive and social atmosphere. Music and lighting do not overwhelm, and the servers are fantastic. Angel behind the bar earns special mention; she’s just fantastic!
The arugula salad is one of the best I’ve ever had: arrives properly dressed (with scratch-made dressing) & tossed (“dressing on the side” only be request, by the unsophisticated). The bread — which they also make in-house — is addictively good. The salmon and white fish are amazing dishes.
We love this place so much we are using for a baby shower.
AND…some suggestions:
More appetizer options for vegetarians.
Please, please, please overhaul your pizza program. The pizza that you serve is not even pizza; it is something else. And something else can be fine, if it’s good, and this non-pizza concoction is NOT good. It’s especially disappointing for those of us accustomed to the A+ pizza that your sister operation serves at the hotel. That is what I expected. Instead, I got a small loaf of bread cut longitudinally with pizza toppings…which could have been a fine surprise, but instead it forced me to do something that I rarely do: send it back.
Please figure out a way to display all your liquor choices so that a discerning, adventurous guest can see what you have and choose from among your offerings. Playing “tell me what you’re looking for and I’ll tell you what we have hidden in the bar well” is impractical, undignified, and confrontational. What I’m looking for is to view your liquor choices. Hiding them completely disregards any creativity that your bar manager achieved in selecting an interesting spirits library. I realize that most people drink the same thing wherever they go. Such dullards can just ask if you have something unimaginative, like Jack Daniels or Bacardi (the correct answer should be: no, we only have interesting options; there’s an Applebee’s and TGIMcFunsters down the street if you want to be mundane). But Verona attracts bon vivants (that’s why we drove past Chile’s and Outback Outhouse!) who will enjoy spotting something unusual that the bar manager selected, and enjoy engaging in productive conversation with the barkeep, such as “tell me about that interesting bottle up there next...
Read moreShort Rib dinner for 2 review: to put it lightly, I woke up this morning and it was the first thing I thought about. I wanted it so bad again!
The rib was perfectly cooked. It melted in my mouth. The sauce was perfectly thick and delicious. The veggies were a great pair. For a roasted veggie dish they set the bar high. It had cauliflower, broccoli, peppers, potatoes, carrots and I think some Brussels, all roasted to perfection. The house salad was yummy and light, I will be dreaming of that dressing as well. So creamy and light. A creamy balsamic but one like you’ve never tasted before. And the salad didn’t have onions- thank you!!!! No one likes them anyways. The meal included a fresh loaf of bread that was fluffy and dense, and came with a dipping oil. Also noted the meal came with generous portions of sauce. Dressing and rib sauce in pint sized ups! Plenty left over to make a meal with them.
Then there’s the donuts. I didn’t even know the meal came with a dessert. But these donuts were perfection. We were pleasantly surprised when we bit in that were was no filling. The dipping sauce was sweet and had flavors to it I couldn’t identify. Omg so good. The perfect way to end an AMAZING MEAL. Please never change a thing to that meal.
The meal was bought via curb side pick up. Megan answered the phone and was chipper and polite. The price was a tiny bit pricy but considering everything we got, the quality of the food and packaging, the circumstances of stay at home order and what that is doing to sales, we were happy to pay $65 for two meals. Plus after the bomb of a meal we had last night I would do it again and again. And we will.
The woman came out to the car and was polite and safe. She had a mask on and gloves. Over all for our first time there, I give this 5/5. The best meal I’ve had during this pandemic and it will be remembered as that. Simply an EPIC meal. Thank you for staying open and delivering such great food and service! You’ve gained a new customer!
Update: Have been 3x since this review and I have been happy every single time....
Read moreThis place has been mixed. As it's local, my husband and I have eaten here several times. The first time we had a charcuterie board and drinks and sat outside on the patio, it was lovely - a bit overpriced, but good service and great atmosphere. The second time we came, we ate at the bar because they had limited seating and did not make a reservation. I had the gnocchi and my husband had the short ribs. The food was cooked well but SO salty! And the portion sizes are tiny. A few bites of gnocchi and it was gone. The bartender did not seem to notice us or pay much attention - maybe it was because we were casually dressed and didn't reek of money, I'm not sure. A lot of customers were dressed to the nines. The next time we came - I'm all about giving a local place another chance! - we made a reservation and were seated at a high top table right next to a large party with a lot of children. It was so loud we couldn't hear each other. It seemed very crowded, and although our waitress was nice she was slow. I had the salmon and it was cooked ok, but again - so salty I could hardly swallow it. We came back about a month later to celebrate a special day and ordered two shots of Clase Azul Reposado tequila. Mind you, we've had these at multiple restaurants and they range from $25-35/shot. We got our bill - it totaled $130! For TWO shots of tequila! We were in shock. The bartenders are a mixed bag, too - sometimes they are very attentive and other times we practically had to flag them down because they flat out ignored us. We haven't...
