I am a little late in writing this review due to a bout with coronavirus but remember enjoying a chicken gyro platter two weeks ago beneath the "Grand Opening" sign. My sister had the same dish-in a pita-and both were top-notch in terms of flavor and quality (we are gyro aficionados, having tried most spots DC; we are not able help ourselves from comparing what passes as a gyro here to the divine wrap one would find on a Cycladean island in Greece). Our gyros were custom-made with white meat so took slightly longer to cook, but the added freshness was much appreciated, as was the solicitiousness of the staff who also offered us free drinks from the fridge while we were waiting (this made the price, which is higher than establishments in other parts of the city by a dollar or two, seem justified). The staff was accommodating, gregarious, and kind, while the bright and clean space was otherwise empty on the heels of Christmas--in recent months, construction next door has overshadowed the awning and the restaurant, making it hard to tell if Aladdin's, which boasts a couple other locations in NE that have earned significant followings over the years--is actually open here in Glover Park. It is! Do try it--I know we'll...
Read moreApproaching the place, it is super bright, which helps finding it as the restaurant is set back from the buildings around it. This also gave us a sense of safety walking in. There was someone at the counter ready to assist us, but being our first time in, we opted for a kiosk, off to the right side, with a big and equally bright screen, displaying images of every dish. This was very helpful and made the ordering easy and quick, even for us newbies to the place. We opted to take out. Already, in the car, the aroma of delicious food filled the air. Once at our place, we started opening the containers and wrappers, even the packaging was excellent, inside the plastic bag, a heavy-duty paper back, stapled to containers to prevent shifting and spilling during transport. The food was utterly delicious, from simple salad, tzatziki sauce (some of the best I have tried anywhere), chickpeas, seasoned fries, shawarmas and kabob. It would be 2 thumbs up but both my...
Read moreTried to get food here (way before closing) and though the “Open” sign was lit up - no one came to the door. Knocked for a few minutes and actually saw someone in the back but they literally stood near a corner (I assume trying to hide or pretend he didn’t hear us) and then never came to the door. And this was after my group of friends and I had already figured out paying for parking and knew what we were about to order. Complete waste of time and the person inside could have at least shook their head no or something to indicate they acknowledged us but weren’t gonna open the door (mind you we arrived ~10pm...
