Summary - Website needs to be updated. In person menu is different than their menu online. No longer has happy hour (which is also listed online with a menu Sun-Thurs 3-7 and late night). Dishes that previous (recent) reviews (i.e. lobster) have raved about and that are on their online menu (i.e seafood nachos) are not available. Fried oyster tacos and margaritas were good, but not something you cannot get elsewhere in the area for cheaper and better service. Details: Visited on a Thursday early-evening for Happy Hour with a friend. Referenced their website for their menu when making plans which included a happy hour menu for seafood nachos ($7) , tacos ($3), and shrimp tostadas ($7), and a few drink specials (i.e. margarita, beer). My friend looked at their menu as well, and we both agreed on the place over others in the area given this. We arrived at the restaurant, and inquired about their happy hour since we weren't given a menu. We were told they don't have happy hour. I mentioned that this was not what was represented on their website. The waitress makes a call to confirm with someone and comes back with the same response. Okay, noted - we took a look at the regular menu for other dishes that we were interested in, and also found that those weren't on the menu either. We pulled the website menu up and confirmed that this menu was different than the one online. Highly disappointed at this point - We took some time to scour through the menu and settled on fried oyster and shrimp tacos. Keeping 2 stars since the fried oyster tacos are good and our drinks were also good - but not things you couldn't have gotten elsewhere in the area for cheaper and better service. Seems like menu items that set them apart a bit are no longer available. Also in an empty restaurant they sat a party at the booth right behind us. We would've appreciated more space since the restaurant was empty and it is...
Read moreWould have given 4.5 if I could because it's has been the only highly rated restaurant I've been to in DC so far whose food wasn't merely Average or outright underwhelming. The pro: food is enjoyable, semi-opened kitchen Cons: short staffed: only two ladies working in the kitchen for all orders, shout out to them!--- means longer wait time The foods are missing finishing ingredients that are listed in the menu description thats supposed to top everything off, for example, the first time I ordered, the Jardin pizza had no goat cheese (the main reason I ordered) and the seafood nachos I ordered on my second visit had no crab meat, just all shrimp- I wanted to try it mainly for the crab. To their credit, the shrimps were well cleaned (no poop visidible- yes, I always check 🙂). I threw out a good portion of the shrimp because it was flavorless but the nachos were still enjoyable I'm going back for the Acapulco Nachos agin but with steak instead of seafood.
I'm going to sample the menu from mezcalero next door. Same executive chef/owner, the menu...
Read moreLet me start by saying that we had a good time, only shamefully ruined by its ending. The food was good and affordable, the service was attentive without being annoyingly over us. The shame and embarrassment came when they brought us the receipt. It clearly stated the suggested tips, which is fine though a tad bold for my taste. However the tip had already been placed by them at an outrageous 20%! Enforced down our throats! We had to go through the awkwardness of calling them out to please have the tip removed and add a 15% instead, which is a very, very good tip btw. We were told that this was NOT possible, which of course is ILLEGAL, and were stuck into paying it because we didn't want to create more fuss. That's ILLEGAL again, you are BANDITS! shame on you
Edit: Do NOT go there. We have tried to contact them to no avail. They did not have enough to ROB us with an enforced 20% tip, that they charged it TWICE. Yeah, baby! a 40% tip in...
