Ordered delivery today - not sure if people like this place only for the tacos or what, but most of what we ordered was not good at all. In general, it was quite overpriced for the portions, and several things just didn't make sense. More detail on what we tried: "Grilled" Steak Burrito: steak wasn't grilled, it was salty, and mediocre at best. Cost $22, not worth it at all, get a Chipotle burrito instead. Chicken Fajita: chicken was not grilled (sautéd), dry and very little flavor. Veggies were fine, tortillas were fine. Very small amount of rice & beans on the side which makes no sense because those are the cheapest ingredients. Cost $29, very overpriced. Fried Plantains: these were the best thing we had, no complaints other than being a small portion for $12 Chips & Salsa: The salsa roja is some strange concoction that appeared to have been cooked because it was dull red with oil in it rather than bright red & fresh - it was not good. The green salsa is very spicy and also not the best. The spice level is subjective but the menu should indicate that. Chicken Quesadilla: just mediocre, nothing special at all for $20 and a small portion that should only cost about $13. Queso Fundido: Makes absolutely no sense. This should be a cheese dip, but what I received was a solid block of cheese in an aluminum takeout tray. It was literally hard. When I tried to reheat it in the toaster oven (can't microwave b/c aluminum), it just started to separate into oil and gross blocky cheese - completely inedible and I threw away a $15 block of cheese.
Overall I absolutely do not recommend. Maybe the tacos are worth trying but there are way better options in the area for the items...
Read moreTaqueria Habanero has the best brunch food in Washington DC hands-down no competition. I have been coming here for years and the quality, staff, and atmosphere have always been incredible.
The tacos are made with simple fresh ingredients and the chilaquiles (both rojo and verde) are to die for. The salsas are all made in-house and have a depth of flavor you simply cannot get from a jar.
Margaritas are delicious and strong. Give the habanero margarita a try, in my opinion it is the best one on the menu as long as you can handle the heat.
One of the best things about Taqueria Habanero is the quality and speed of the service. No matter how busy it is you can go in and expect to be served and eating within 15 minutes. Wait staff is always very friendly and does whatever they can to improve your stay.
Atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable. There are no TVs or loud music playing and it is not overly bright inside (thought they do have a patio out front in the summer) A perfect place to spend a Sunday morning hanging out with friends and eating delicious food. That’s why I keep going back.

POSTSCRIPT: My only real quip with Taqueria Habanero is I probably won’t order the sangria again after paying $32 for the equivalent of 2.5 glasses worth. I mentioned it to our waitress and she was very understanding and went to bat for us with the kitchen staff regarding the issue. Later on someone from the kitchen came out and expressed his apologies (he gave some excuse about the shape of the glasses(?) but honestly who hasn’t covered their own tail once or twice) and gave us two additional glasses for our trouble. I appreciate him...
Read moreIt’s unfortunate how much this place has changed — and not necessarily for the better. I’ve been a loyal customer of Taqueria Habanero for years. I remember when tacos came with two tortillas and you’d get a generous basket of chips and salsa. I’ve seen many changes over time and continued to recommend this spot as one of the best in the city, but the latest change was disappointing.
On a recent visit, I noticed even the small serving of complementary chips had been removed without notice. When I asked about it, the server mentioned that they started charging for chips as of last Tuesday. I understand that restaurants evolve, but it felt surprising, especially as a regular who’s seen the gradual reduction from a full basket to a few chips, and now none. At the same time, prices have gone up. It left me feeling that customer experience might be taking a backseat.
We’ve always supported this family business — even showing up on opening day for their Georgia Ave location - Uno Mas. The food is consistently great, which is why we kept coming back. I do hope they find a balance between growth and the little things that make loyal customers feel appreciated.
I understand they haven't added a service charge but tips are still expected. I have always tipped on the suggested percentages which are based on the total including tax, which might lead some customers to tip more than intended. Just something for others to...
