El Migueleño bar & grill 🇲🇽 — Restaurant in Washington

Be careful with this place. I used to be a regular here and would stop by often. Unfortunately, ever since the owner passed away, the level of service and professionalism has gone downhill. The son, who now knows runs this place, has done a terrible job managing it.

The last time I visited this bar, I was charged for two separate tabs. One was around $200. I was with a friend and might have bought a few rounds, so I did not question that one too much. But then the next morning I realized that there was a second charge for over $600.

When I went back to ask for a breakdown, the owner refused to show it. His only explanation was that alcohol is expensive. He also claimed that I had agreed to pay for someone else’s tab. This was a person I had just met that night and was not there with. I was never given a total, never saw a receipt, and never knowingly agreed to take on that kind of charge.

This is not a high-end bar. There is absolutely nothing in this place that justifies a $600 tab for one person. Since then, I have found out that I am not the only one. Former employees and other locals said this place has a pattern of charging people ridiculous tabs when they are intoxicated. A bartender from a bar across the street said it happens all the time. People come in saying they feel like they were scammed or taken advantage of.

As I mentioned, I used to be a local and a regular. After this experience, I became a former one. So did a few others I have met who stopped going for the same reason. Even two long-time employees left because of the way the place was being run. The fact that they sided with the customers, not the business, speaks for itself. If you decide to go, do it with your eyes wide open. Those of us who used to trust this place...

Establishment was dirty, there were bugs clearly throughout the establishment including on our table while eating. Music was too loud to have a conversation, even though my girlfriend and I were the only people in there. The wait staff had a huge amount of trouble understanding our orders. On top of it all, you can get much better food in much better places in the same neighborhood for the same price.
