On Georgia Ave NW in Park View are two sandwich shops. Sundevich caters to the DC transplants, specifically a hipster/yuppy crowd. Fancy sandwiches are crafted in an Instagrammable space with steep price tags. Heat Da Spot is the anti-thesis of Sundevich. It's a local spot in a run down building with an eccentric menu from Ethiopian breakfast to coffee to meatball subs. It caters to DC locals.
Yelp doesn't lie and Heat Da Spot is beating Sundevich. Any shop that has a 5 star rating and hundreds of reviews is worth your time. Here's why you must go to Heat Da Spot:
Food: It's just good. People rave about the breakfast, but if you go for lunch, order any of their sandwiches. My meatball sandwich was the best I've had ever and it comes with your own personal "secret sauce" (it's a green spicy sauce) and chips. For drinks, grab a Boylan orange soda or a cold glass of water the owner personally delivers to your table.
Staff: They are the friendliest people you'll meet in the city and take their business seriously in a welcoming way. A sign by the register says they craft their food with love and they deliver it that way too. Their kindness is contagious.
Price: Sundevich is across the street and they make an excellent sandwich, but it's significantly pricier than Heat Da Spot. My meatball sub was filling and only $8.
Space: It's eccentric and quirky, but it works. Random decorations litter the walls, but there's plenty of tables (indoor and outdoor), power outlets, and strong, free wifi for all.
People magazine gave Heat Da Spot a nod, and excluded Sundevich. I think we know which sandwich shop is winning...
Read moreI really love "Heat The Spot" Cafe on Georgia Ave in Washington DC! From the moment you walk through the door, you are greeted by the warm and welcoming owners who make you feel right at home. The decor is really dope and unique, with traditional Ethiopian and international artwork on the walls. The atmosphere is super chill, making it the perfect spot for breakfast or a casual meal with friends.
But the real star of the show at "Heat The Spot" is the food. The menu features a wide variety of authentic Ethiopian dishes, as well as American-Ethiopian fusion options that are truly unique and delicious. The flavors are bold and complex, with a perfect balance of spices and seasonings. The injera, a traditional Ethiopian flatbread, is particularly noteworthy and is made fresh daily.
The portions are huge, so be sure to come with an appetite! And the prices are very reasonable, making it a great value for the quality of food you get.
One of the things I love most about "Heat The Spot" is how much the owners care about their customers. They are always going above and beyond to ensure that everyone has a great experience. They are passionate about life and are always happy to share their knowledge and stories about the dishes they serve. They take great pride in their food and it shows in every dish they serve.
Heat The Spot is a spot you have to check out for a delicious and authentic Ethiopian dining experience in Washington DC. The owners, food, and decor are all 100% and make for a truly memorable experience. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out! I highly...
Read moreOh my freaking gosh! I'll take the long way from Buffalo to Tampa any time to hit this place up (especially when they let you actually use the restroom again 'out of order', yeah we all know it's cause the 'mandates' ya'll aren't revolting against, not that it's 'out of order'. They just don't want to get sued if someone gets a cold /covid. Respect though, mad respect). Family owned and operated. Probably THE BEST egg, cheese, bacon croissant I've ever had with a hint of Cayenne pepper to heat da spot. And I've had plenty of those breakfast sandwiches over the years, even on long Island. This one was THE BEST!
Service on point. Menu selection amazing, a little hot eating inside, but it's a small space, kitchen right there by the register and maybe 7-10 indoor seating space (they let me take my stupid mask off so I could breathe, medical is all you've gotta say in DC they know masks are BS like any other sane, logical, rational, intelligent person, might have helped I was wearing a "Don't Fauci my Florida" shirt, Def got some looks for wearing that, lol). Outside was crowded, people were friendly, and the owner someone give that man the key to the city and put him in charge of the cities hospitality & tourism department. Will be stopping here everytime I need a new tee-shirt from All the Buzz DC.
And to the owner of Heat Da...
