great way to spend a Saturday morning, visiting the Columbia Heights farmer's market at the civic plaza. there's an artsy vibe at this market location, and most weekends there's live music (a violinist, cellist, bassist, keyboardist and vocalist have been the main instrumentalists). the vendor offerings include plant-based hot dogs/half smokes, empanadas (meat and vegetarian, not vegan), coffee, fresh cut flower bouquets, unique edible fungi, and conveniently a food scrap drop off point for those who are into composting. though it's a busy area on 14th St NW near Park Rd, with traffic congestion, a few people who regular serenade passersby in a drunken fashion and honking horns, it's also a true reflection of what the non-Capitol Hill DC of today is like in many ways. there's a mix of people from all walks of life whose individual rhythms culminate into the total vibe. As far as shopping options, there's a Giant Food grocery store, a Starbucks, Sticky Fingers vegan bakery/food spot, an ice cream/boardwalk fries spot (interesting combination, I know - but the fries are really tasty), a Target and many other places in the immediate area. also the Metro/subway is like a block away and the busses that run on 16th are just a few blocks walking distance. Adams Morgan is walking distance (over towards 18th St) and Malcolm X Park is about 15 minutes up the street on foot (or just take the S bus down 16th St towards U St). one thing I will say is that there are mad pigeons that luv to hang out in the area, thanks to the occasional randoms who seem to relish in feeding them (eyes rolling), so be aware of that. all in all though, the civic plaza is a lively spot to pass thru if ur out and about running errands or just checking out local go to spots in...
Read moreGreat community space. The farmers market from spring thru fall are wonderful outings if you love farm to table healthy edibles. They have great selections especially for vegetarians. It is handicapped accessible but, there is a need for a public restroom facility. Also a great space to schedule community activities in the hopefully, cool, sunny rain free summer. Or to repose and rest for a minute...

In the summer there is a great splash park surrounded by a half circle of cement seating which is wonderful for children to play in and is nice for parents to unwind. Please note that a group of homeless men hang out here from time to time and...
