It is sad that the ANC Commissioners and Council Member Brianne Nadeau wants to tear out this park in order to build an unaffordable high-rise building.
We did our best to try to save this park. We tried to save it for the honey bees, for the children to play, for adults to have a place to sit and relax, for elder people to take their grandchildren, and it is where adults have hosted community events.
In the next couple of years this park will be non-existent. You can thank Council Member Brianne K. Nadeau because she wanted it for her "legacy," and you can pat the ANC Commissioners Rashida Brown and Michael Wray for selling Public Land to a Private Developer and they approved this deal that would give them a land lease for 99 years for $1.00 dollar.
This redevelopment of Bruce Monroe Park has affected many low-income black families by displacing them from their homes as well as their Ward. Many of the displaced residents will not be able to afford to return.

There's a giant sinkhole in one of the basketball courts, but the courts are paved in a covering that has some give to it and there are nice backboards. There's a tennis court and you can usually get a game in since the more popular Banneker Park is closeby. There's a decent sized community garden, also a playground and small field but not large enough for much more than kicking/throwing a ball around or laying down a blanket. It's usually not very crowded, which is good if you want a spot to yourself but difficult to find a pickup basketball game when no...
Read moreBruce Monroe Community Park is a large green space in Park View with beautiful views of Washington, D.C.'s skyline. There are plenty of benches and green space for kids to run free. There's a tiny playground for little kids, courts, a community garden and a mural on the southwest side. Nearby are plenty of shops including an ice cream parlor (Here's The Scoop0), coffee (Doubles), sandwiches (Heat Da Spot), bagels (the OG Call Your Mother Deli), pizza (Sonn'ys) and Georgian...
