I cannot say enough good things about Joe’s! True, I’ve only had one sandwich there, two different times, and only a handful of the baked goods, but they’ve all been excellent.
His quality is very consistent, I first had the braunschweiger sandwich probably 8 years ago, and it was as perfect as I remembered. Some people fear this “sausage“ because they’ve only had it from grocery stores where it is thick and gooey and gross, but this braunshweiger is none of that, and is really everything you would want it to be. The rye bread was hand sliced thick, there was Swiss cheese and stone ground mustard, red onions, and…..it was just fantastic.
Today I also got a mini pumpkin cheesecake, mini gooey butter cake and little peach pie. All of them were outstanding, even more than I can describe.
They have many more baked goods and all kinds of delicious sandwiches and soups (I’m assuming they’re delicious too, since I’ve not actually had a soup, though).
The place was clean and bright, including the bathroom, which is always a plus!

Read moreMy husband and I visited Washington, MO, and on the strength of a recommendation from the mailman (always good!), we ate lunch at Joe's Bakery & Delicatessen. It was GREAT!
Joe is the chef, and puts together some FABULOUS eats. We had the chicken artichoke spinach wrap and the Italian wrap, and they were both absolutely delectable! The flavors were perfectly paired in each of the wraps, and the portions were generous. We split a personal-size turtle cheesecake, and it was so yummy! And the prices are extremely reasonable, which made everything even better.
The deli is air-conditioned, which was very welcome on such a hot day, as were the ice-cold drinks. The service was fast and friendly, thanks to Joe and Sam at the counter. The entire staff is welcoming and genuinely glad to serve you.
We know there are a lot of dining choices in Washington, but we're very glad we ate at Joe's! ...
Read moreIt was the worst 9$ sandwich I’ve ever experienced. The bread was stale the meat was nonexistent since it was all you could do to choke down the stale bread there was more fat on the meat then there was meat. The person waiting on me didn’t seem interested at all in making a sandwich but finishing his work to get out of there I guess. In his defense I did go there at 330 and they close at 4. This is the only somewhat of an excuse I could find to explain why a 4.7 star would have such awful food. Perhaps his bakery items are over the top but they should refrain from calling themselves a delicatessen. Getting ready to move to Washington and this will not be a go to spot. At...
