This place had the worst service I have ever seen. I came in on a quiet Saturday afternoon where I was the only person at the counter. The barista was talking to the other employee and a friend across the counter while making the only order ahead of mine, which they then got wrong and had to remake because they were talking and not paying attention. Once that order was done, they stopped to chat with their friend and fiddle with the Spotify playlist, even though I, the only other customer, was standing right there waiting. They then wandered off to go make their friend a drink, and eventually asked the other barista to make my order (who was still changing the Spotify and not even looking at me) Normally I have a lot of patience when it comes to waiting for food/drinks/whatever service as I know people are overworked, but if Iām standing there for almost ten minutes as one of two customers, that makes me extremely unimpressed with the total apathy and disregard for customer service. More than anything else Iām confused as to how they think thatās the way to operate a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a fairly new Rwandese coffeeshop, embedded in the lobby of a new residential apartment buildingāthough the cafĆ© is for building residents as well as outsiders (like me). It does have a bit of a lobby vibe, but in an attractive way. The cafĆ© is spacious, with only a few tables and chairs placed in the widespread space. Despite only very limited seating area in the wide lobby space, The cafĆ© was only sparsely visited, and it was fairly silent since nearly everyone was (like me) there to get some work done. Even the poor baristas were whispering to each other rather than speaking normally, given how silent all customers were. They do seem to have given the coffee shop a number of Rwandese accents, like some of the chairs and the decorationābesides the coffee itself, of course. Which I didnāt have, since I (unwisely) ordered hot chocolateā¦which tasted like some vaguely vanilla flavoured sugary something, but in no way like cocoa. Just like in so many cafes of DC ļ The plain croissant was fine though, and they kindly warmed it up...

Like a little kid I peered into the windows as I approached the entrance. I was drawn to by the name of the coffee shop, Land of a Thousand Hills & Social, and excited to try their coffee.
Nestled in the corner bottom floor of the modern NOVEL 14th Street Apartments, Land of a Thousand Hills & Social is thoughtfully curated for comfort, socialization and working. Plenty of afternoon light poured through large windows perfectly complimenting the natural tones of desks for independent working, a long conference table for collaborating, and two big comfy tan leather couches for chatting with friends. If you prefer to sip on your coffee out in the sun there was plenty of seating out on a patio.
The barista was super friendly and engaging. She crafted a well balanced cortado which I sipped peacefully snuggled up in the corner of one the couches.
Enjoying life one...
