TCB. Taking care of business. Or the Coffee Bar.

The Coffee Bar serves up your coffee from a variety of independent, third-wave roasters, including Ceremony, Verve, Bespoken, Onyx, and Novo (...sounds like an odd cult gathering). So for those who love the aforementioned roasters, fuel your caffeine addiction with some TCB.

On tap drip, espresso, (vanilla, chai, dirty) latte, cappuccino, mocha, #dailycortado. TCB makes them all with passion. And if you're not one for coffee, you can get some hot chocolate or teas. They also have a selection of pastries from local suppliers including Hawthrone, Sweet Lobby, Bethesda Bagels, and Paisley Fig. Their milk is sourced from a local farm in Lancaster County. In summary, if you're a coffee snob or pride yourself in repping and supporting local businesses, TCB is definitely for you.

I stopped by after a meeting in DC to get some much needed caffeine one afternoon. The coffee counter/bar area is décor goals. Chalkboard menu boards (with some of the most beautiful handwriting), coffee paraphernalia, coffee beans, glasses, succulents, and matchy robin egg blue pendant lights and counter wall.

Not a whole lot of seating but there are a few if you want to plop down and get a good short story in before your next class or meeting. Most of the cups that come from behind the counter are to go. Friendly staff who are obviously having fun and love what they do. Thank...

As the 4-star description says, "Yay! I'm a fan." This is a cute little coffee bar tucked away between the Shaw and U St/14th St area. It was opened in 2012 and since then, it seems to have done incredibly well for itself.

As with any coffee shop, it gets crowded very quickly. There is a single couch and let me tell you, that is premium real estate. They recently opened up a lot of outdoor seating (thank goodness!), and I could definitely see myself sipping on a dirty chai in the sunshine after a nice yoga session nearby. If it's a weekday morning, I'd recommend that you get there AFTER the morning rush. 9:00am seems to be the sweet spot. Sundays are rough.

As far as food and decor, this place is right on. It's got a handwritten menu in chalk on the wall -- but you can actually read this one! It's very clearly written, which I appreciate. The crowd is varied. I've seen multiple people come into this place and the baristas know their order -- such a nice touch. They have all the coffee selections you could possibly want, and great food too. The food includes a variety of flavored croissants (almond and chocolate), danishes, and bagels.

Check out this place if you want to feel...

First things first, the coffee is excellent and I really enjoyed the dirty chai that I ordered. Also, I really like that payment at this cafe is quick, efficient, and I have the option to have my receipt emailed to me. I’m all about being green, whenever possible. Coffee rating is 5 stars; customer service rating is 3 stars. Now to my one critique: please minimize arguing with your customers. I made a simple request this morning that my cup not be labeled as “Dirty Pam”. Apparently, the cup naming thing is done a certain way and it seemed to me that this location had never received a critique on this prior to today. It’s not that big a deal but why argue with me on this? If I ask for my name not to be preceded by the word “dirty” then this should be done without being ‘forced’ to explain why I made the request. The lady (I interacted with) gave me a very mean look for requesting this. She was also quite aloof. For me, customer service is more important than the product or service. Please understand that by improving your customer service, you will have customer loyalty. Let’s hope improvement is...

I came in because somebody else reviewed this place as the best coffee shop in DC. Needless to say, I was skeptical. I arrived, informed them of the earlier review and implied the high expectations I had and they stared back with confidence and an aura of "its go time" I started with a flat white with Single origin Ethopian coffee, 5 stars. In the pastry case I stared at the lonely croissant and inquired to its makeup, Proscuitto and gruyere cheese they said....I committed to it before they could finish explaining it. 5 stars. I ended with a large coffee to-go, splash of cream....yummy. 5 stars. Is it the best coffee shop in Washington DC? Did they live up to the hype? Yeah, they did. I'll say best coffee shop in the area because DC is big. Don't trust me? Come find out for yourself.

Wonderful little coffee shop located in the Pillsbury Building in the heart of downtown DC. I fell in love with The Coffee Bar's other location Shaw for their incredible coffee, friendly staff, and great vibes, and their downtown version is no different. Their coffee is rich, slightly nutty, and super smooth, and it's great in all forms -- latte, americano, drip, etc. If you don't love coffee, their matcha latte is also phenomenal and probably one of my favorites in DC. The ambiance is a little bit more corporate and a smidge more snug than the Shaw location, but it's still delightful. There are a few seats available at the window-side bar or at a long table in the center of the café, but this spot is also the perfect destination for a little mid-workday stroll with a cup of joe to go.
