The reason i am giving the room 0 stars is because i saw a rat crawling out of the air conditioner (which is installed on the floor below the window). Which isnt acceptable at all. Especially for a hotel (+youre a 3 star hotel, you should have standards). This also means you didnt have a exterminator for a long time or not at all. The room looks clean but probably isnt since there is a very high possibility of rats crawling around. Even if it is clean, it doesnt feel clean anymore.
So I called the lobby, they apologized, gave me a new room and promised me to compensate the cost of 1 night.
The hotel crew handled the situation nicely and i appreciate it. That is why im giving the service a 5 star.
BUT ONE RAT IN A ROOM MEANS THAT THERE IS A WHOLE RAT CIVILLIZATION IN THE WHOLE BUILDING. So the "changing the room" thing is just to have a "safer feeling" for the moment but it doesnt fix the problem at all.
You guys definitley should call an exterminator. A good one. If you do and somehow manage to prove it, i will gladly change my review more positive.
My summary for this hotel is :
Pros : Price is good for the service and room you receive (if you exclude the rat issue) The room is quite big and has a nice looking aesthetic (classic white and wood color) Has alot of sockets (normal ones and USB) for your charger etc. Has a microwave and fridge in the room The breakfast is ok Good location Polite hotel crew Has a small gym and laundry room Mostly quiet in the night Big supermarket nearby (5 minutes away by foot) parking space available
Cons : RATS!! Not the best WiFi speed + it isnt secured..so basically if someone attacks the WiFi succesfully, they could cause financial damage to all who are connected to the WiFi...yikes You cant pull out the shower head (minor problem)
Conclusion : There are more positive points than negative points imo. But those negative ones are more than enough to overshadow the positives. If you dont look at the rat problem and the unsecured wifi, its actually a good hotel. Would gladly visit again if these problems are solved.
P.s. The breakfast is quite good but the bread has almost no supplements for it. All i saw was butter, creamcheese and jelly (there is bacon, grilled sausages, scrambled eggs etc. for those who are wondering. But thats no supplement for bread imo). Maybe i am mistaken and this is how american hotel breakfast works or maybe its because you have a third party restaurant in your hotel instead of your own. But every single hotel i have been in Europe offers ham, cheese slices etc. So i was confused. But its my first time in the U.S. so please correct me if im mistaken.
EDIT : I just saw an old review (8 months ago) from a person named Kiran with the same rat problem. This proves my theory right that you didnt take care of the problem at all. That is really disappointing. Gave originally 2 stars but now 1 star for you not taking...
Read moreWe stayed at the Washington DC Holiday Inn Central/White House. The staff, with the exception of the maintenance person, were inhospitable from the moment I checked in. The person working the desk was brusque to the point of rudeness, actually scolded me for having failed to fill out a document she handed me but made no request for me to complete, offered no assistance with bags and made no offer to allow us to unload where it would have been convenient/where designated prior to parking. Not the way one hopes to be greeted after an eight hour solo drive. Upon arriving at the room, the keys did not work and had to be rescanned—another trip down to the lobby. The room itself was dirty—the bathroom mildewed and rusted—the sink was clogged, the curtains had what appeared to be a large, bloody stain at eye level—and said curtains themselves did little to conceal the view of the dumpsters the room overlooked. When I called down to have the clogged sink addressed, the desk person hung up on me and claimed I had hung up on her when I was the one attempting to receive assistance...these things happened, but it was another moment of frustration, and her attitude added actual insult to the very, very minor injury. All of this after I had to guess which button to press on the phone, because the phone’s standard directory was missing. The good part of the stay was the maintenance person who came to fix the sink. He was both helpful and friendly. Later, when I went to take a quick look at the pool area, the lifeguard, who was apparently about to leave for the day, immediately began yelling that we needed to leave because the pool was closed. When I noted, as I was turning to leave, that I was just having a quick look to see where it was, he walked over, ordered me to repeat myself and then repeated loudly into my face that the pool was closed. The pool closes at “dusk” (vague, but fine) and apparently, I was expected to know exactly what time that meant...on a cloudy evening. I understand, again, that he was probably eager to leave at the end of a long day (fair) but some modicum of civility would have been nice. Needless to say, we did not feel like returning when the pool reopened in the morning. In fact, we departed far earlier than we normally would have. Checkout was also somewhat fraught as the system for checkout was down (these things happen) but the other person working the desk was speaking so loudly that I could not hear the person trying to check me out. All in all, it was the low point of what had been a delightful two-week trip involving three other hotels...none of them IHG. I’ll be requesting a refund and, if necessary, reconsidering...
Read moreThis hotel was pretty good. Once you go in the hotel staff was great and friendly. We got the best rate and paid in full with Sam's club travel. The 6th floor was a nice view. I suggest bringing ear plugs if you're a light sleeper and must have the AC on. The AC on the wall didn't work but there was a window unit that worked well. I suggest running it cold before you go to bed for an hour or so and you'll be cool all night. We're talking July weather too. The room and bathroom were super clean on arrival and done daily. Our coffee machine was shitty, slow dribbling coffee. Contacted front desk on the morning of July 21st twice to replace, it wasn't done. They said they'd have another one brought up. The upside is they have free coffee and creamer downstairs daily. The beds were super comfortable, but pillows were very flat. I slept on one end of the pillow with them being large and made out okay. You get free bottled water daily. The bathroom is slightly concerning as it has no ventilation so the ceiling looks very rough over the shower. The details in the bathroom look like a shotty but everything was cleaned and worked daily. The plus right outside the bathroom we had a mini fridge and a microwave. We utilized their down stairs past the front desk to the back right, take you key card they have like a mini convenience store. You can get snacks, drinks, breakfast items, and missed travel items, very reasonably priced You can pay each time or have the option of adding it to your hotel room bill. Roof top pool the same and great and clean. Johnny Rockets restaurant is attached and they had great food, service is hit or miss on refills. Food was hot and fresh the two times we went for dinner from being out all day in the evenings. The hotel stay was quiet other than just needing to cool the room nightly. Rooms are cleaned daily and done well. Not many encounters with hotel staff, check in great, if you need something that definitely needs improvement. We were one mile walking distance from the white house and the outdoor mall. The daily rate was affordable for our trip. We'd surely would stay here again if we...
