From New York but lived in Chicago for years so I prefer the thin greasy slice but, I still love deep dish Chicago style pizza. With that being said, I know the Midwest cuts the acid of the tomatoe sauce with sugar. This was a sweet pizza and I really didn't like it. If you want a candy pizza this is the spot. But not for me. The crust is amazing the cheese was good and the best part is the top pepperoni that got burnt a little so it's crispy. Overall a good chicago pizza build (sauce on top a nice layer of cheese toppings on the bottom with a few slightly burnt toppings on top for tasete and texture) But the sweetness brought it down alot for me. Give me a hearty pizza that taste like the main ingredients and if I want to add sweetness from pineapple or something ok. That's my choice. But a big thick sweet pizza isn't good. In my professional pizza opinion. Pizza should be savory with options. So while I won't order again, Unless the tomatoe sauce gets fixed. It's still a good try for some people. Gi ingredients a personal 2 1/2 stars. Crust good cheese good toppings ok. For me sauce is...
Read moreChicagoan here! Born and raised. I'm visiting the area and was surprised to see a restaurant offering a "hack" for Chicago Deep Dish. We took a chance and placed an order. We were first surprised that this business is located inside their home because we saw photos and read reviews that implied a location with staff. We decided to look past that and kept the order. On the drive back home, I felt my leg getting wet. Juices from the pizza was leaking on my leg and inside the bag and some spilled in the car. I've never had a soggy, leaky pizza from anywhere, let alone Chicago. The veggies were too uncooked for my taste and I felt like it was made with some BBQ sauce. I am not a fan. I wasn't expecting this pizza to taste exactly like home, I was however expecting it to taste good. I didn't like it and actually feel they shouldn't lean on Chicago for its inspiration. I would hate for anyone that has never had authentic Chicago style pizza to think this is what it tastes like...
Read moreOMG! This sh*t right here is everything!! Earlier today I stumbled across this little gem tucked away in a grocery store in Coral Hills. This is by far THE BEST deep dish pizza I have ever had. And, the fact that this wonderful establishment is black-owned explains the extra deliciousness poured into each and every slice. I particularly enjoyed the creativity and thoughtfulness given to each pizza pie. I had the pesto salmon pizza which sounded strange yet melted in my mouth and it was pure bliss. The turkey pepperoni & chicken sausage was equally as delicious as the wonderful pizza sauce and flaky crust it accompanied. Oh, and the bread pudding is addicting, it speaks for itself.
Hands down, this spot is the true definition of Black Excellence! Great food and great customer service. The DC Chi Pie is definitely our family’s new favorite pizza spot!! THANK YOU...
