Ami's Crispy Bagels & Deli — Restaurant in Waterbury

Listen I will say Ami’s has some of the best bagels in Waterbury, no question! As a matter of fact I take my son to their location on East Main Street every Friday to get him a bagel for lunch (as he doesn’t like what the school offers on this day)! Now I have had some bad experiences with the service at this location but my son loves their bagels and it’s on the way to his school so what am I to do? So we came in today as we do every Friday...not exactly sure what happened but we had ordered our food and then sat down to wait...I watch as several people came in nearly 5 min after we did place an order and receive it before ours...Almost like they somehow forgot our order...(this has happened before, but over 15 min for a single breakfast sandwich and a bagel is insane) Now I admit I may have gotten a little irritated that they were giving someone who ordered 5 min after I did a similar order before me, but that isn’t right!

After I dropped my son off, I ate my sandwich while driving into work! About my 4th bite in I wretched in pain as I but down on something hard! IT WAS A THIN PIECE OF WOOD! Almost like a piece of a counter top that was placed in my sandwich!!! I actually chipped my lower tooth on it!!

Now that is pretty bad, but what has me writing this negative review, is that my son came home starving cause he never ate his lunch and had to throw the bagel away! When I asked why, he told me that his bagel was burnt, smashed, and worse of all had several hairs of unknown origin, (look 1 is an accident but the amount my 9 year old said was there...that’s not only disgusting that’s completely intentional!)

So yes, I am wrong for having a bit of an attitude but we did NOT deserve that was done to not only me, but my son was absolutely disgusting and was quite actually criminal!! The act has caused me physical damage as I now have a broken front tooth!!!! So this reason why I am giving them 1 Star is because I can’t give zero!

YOU HAVE LOST MY BUSINESS, MY FAMILIES BUSINESS AND THE BUSINESS FROM MY COMPANY!!!!

Best believe that I will be putting in a phone call to the Heath department and know that I have already contacted my attorney!!!

I really wanted to like this place. People at work have brought in the bagels prior and they are amazing but this review is based on the service. In my opinion, you can have the best product in the world but when you turn away customers, not once but twice, you're set to fail.

A while back I came in here around 1:30 on a weekday since I got out of work early and wanted a bagel sandwich. I walked in the door and all the employees were sitting at the tables. I was approached and told they were "closed". It was 1:30 in the afternoon with no sign on the door and no reason was provided. There are no hours posted for the shop in E Main but the other shop runs til 3. If you're on lunch then see if another employee is willing to handle the client or just suck it up and make the food and put in for the extra two to three minutes. This isn't rocket science and it would have shown customer service. If you're insisting on being on lunch then do yourself a favor and close the door and lock it!

Next time I decided to give this place a chance I showed up at 5:45am and they were closed. Again there are NO hours posted for this shop online so maybe the owners should do that?! This place is losing business because they're not open and when they are they choose not to serve customers. I went to the Dunkin down the road. Great place for a Dunkin they even have Chocolate Coconut donuts and the coffee is usually good. Highly recommend them...

"Mom, these bagels are always so good!" Suffice it to say, if you're passing by on I84 in Waterbury, get off and get one .. **or two .. or a dozen! You will not be disappointed !! Big and fat .. a chewy exterior, like grandmas used to give the babies to teethe on .. soft but dense interior.. to accommodate the myriad of spreads available .. the bagels themselves are flavorful throughout, even if you eat them plain. They have a great cup of coffee .. nothing fancy .. just plain old coffee that they brew right! They do have two locations .. but after visiting both, I'd recommend going to the E Main St location simply because they have more to offer .. breakfast sandwiches and deli sandwiches (on a bagel is best😁, of course) .. coolers full of drink options .. chips, etc. The second location is great if you only want to grab a bagel and coffee, quickly on your way out .. but they have no kitchen facilities .. so no sandwiches of any kind. It's becoming more difficult to find a great bagel in NYC than it is to find one in Waterbury CT. This is the place !! **On a recent stop, their coffee was not what it used to be .. they've changed the brand .. maybe it was a fluke .. will wait to see .. but the bagels are still excellent!! Even Hubs (who has a different standard for bagel greatness) said he'd be back on a regular basis .. and trust me, that's...
