I had the pleasure of coming to Brooklynn bakery as I tend to do some mornings. But unfortunately, here is what makes the experience less than perfect. The food is phenomenal. The baked goods are the best in Connecticut in my opinion. The service isn’t as much. And here’s why. After your order is taken, and you’re brought over to the kiosk to pay the employees spend more time, engaging each other and chitchatting with each other then engaging you until the payment process is over. And once you’ve made your payment, they swing the kiosk around to you so that you can decide whether or not you wanna leave a tip the whole while talking to each other and joking around. I work in hospitality, so I understand that tips are earned and not given. And I also know that working in the service industry, your engagement should be with the customer until they leave the front counter, not talking to each other about their plans or making jokes or discussing the latest going on. It has become a common place practice for businesses to solicit tips for their employees, but I don’t believe they’re taking enough time to teach the employees the art of earning the tip. Everyone’s money is valuable. It takes time and effort to earn it on both sides, the customer and the business. And I think that should be respected through The level of sincere engagement that employees demonstrate while dealing with clients. That would have made this experience perfect. And unfortunately, this is not something that has happened as a one off. It’s usually the same way when visiting Brooklynn Bakery. Their employees look like they’ve rolled out of bed and they were pajamas to work. The young man behind the counter had pajama pants on and a oversize hoodie and his hair was all over the place. I think if you want tips, then you should take more care with how you present yourself and how you engage the customer and not just swing the kiosk around hoping that you will make a donation...
Read moreGreat local neighborhood bakery in close proximity to the Highway with plenty of returning customers as well as new faces popping in and out of the business. Service was quick and friendly. The menu features drinks, grill items, breads, pastries, and donuts.
A half dozen donuts is currently priced at $6.50 which is very reasonable for a bakery continuously bringing out fresh trays of pastries throughout the morning.
The donuts themselves were an average size and fluffy on the inside. The dough leaned slightly savory rather than sweet. I was able to detect a subtle flavor of egg and yeast more-so when eating the Cinnamon Sugar donut.
Donuts: -Cinnamon Sugar was okay. I usually enjoy donuts on their own but I recommend pairing this one with a beverage. It would be interesting if powdered cinnamon were incorporated into the dough in addition to the existing exterior coating or if there were a donut with a cinnamon sugar streusel topping.
-Bavarian was coated with powdered sugar and the filling although silky, left me wanting more of the classic vanillin notes of a crème bavarois.
-Glazed was pretty good aside from a couple areas around the hole of the donut on the underside which had pooled with fry oil and glaze (did not make for the most pleasant bites).
Liked (from most to least): Glazed Bavarian Cinnamon Sugar *Forgive me, I have been spoiled by Fany Gerson’s creations at Fan...
Read moreI never really write postings on anybody, but what the owners son did to me there I would never go back.A few years ago they were making the best cake around. But I don't know what happen to the bakers son that he thinks that his quality out beats everyones. I bought a birthday cake for my wife. I paid 45 dollars for it not only was the cake made as a small cake they made the botton layer smaller than the top part. So they getting cheaper with thier cakes and selling them at a full price. So beware if you don't believe it order a cake on the holidays oppose to a non holiday and you will see the difference. The bakers son was rude and disrespectful towards my wife, and he 's a church man you would'nt believe it. Also thier dougnuts they smell espescially the bavarian cremes they smell like fish like they been soaking on oil all day smell them you will start to notice that. I go to Neils in meriden ct they have a better selection of doughnuts and pastries, and they make thier own bagels so you don't have to go else where. But never again they mess up 3 cakes so far and the owners son got the nerve to blame it on the baker yea ok. Never again would I go there, if I'm going to eat garbage, I would just stick my head in the a garbage can. But people see...
