I would give this place a 4.2 if I could, but since I can’t, it gets just 4. Now this is for the pizza only, not rating restaurant itself. The pizza is definitely flavorful, but the only reason why it gets docked any points is because it’s a bit heavy on the sodium (depending on what toppings you get, I got pepperoni) to the point where you call it quits only after a couple slices. The crust is somewhat unique, it’s very dense almost like an unleavened bread, but it does well to mellow out such strong flavors from the sauce, cheese, and toppings.
Overall, it’s a pie I would get again for sure, and that’s coming from someone who lives in New Haven, the pizza capital of the world.
As for the place itself, it’s a small pizzeria. Sure, it’s not a spotless place and the staff don’t wear hairnets and gloves to place toppings (a ridiculous complaint from another reviewer), but honestly, if you’re concerned about stuff like that, then you’re in the wrong place and you’re gonna be missing out on some of the best pies in the world. Hell, even Frank Pepe’s who consistently wins the #1 spot for the best pizza in the USA every year is a hole in the wall. Many of the best places have been around for decades, are family run and aren’t state of the art. Many use old style ovens and are generally a part of the “old world”, where people weren’t germophobic and guess what, no one has died as a result. The oven temp kills any baddies anyway. If it made people sick, places like Pepe’s, Sally’s, Bar, and Modern Apizza would have gone outta business a long time ago. So do yourself a favor and don’t listen to germophobic reviewers who give the place a 1 star, because of their personal cleanliness standards.

Read moreLast week on Saturday before Sunday Super Bowl!! We ordered 25 mild wings and a small pizza total of $50.13. We waited over an hour and a half for delivery (not a problem in m) when our order was delivered the wings were SO over cooked and dried out we couldn't even eat them!! Knowing the would be crazy on Super Bowl Sunday, I waited to call until Monday. I was very nice and spoke to the "manager " she said she would call the owner and get back to me(never did) I called her back and she told me owner said with our us next order he would give me 12 wings on a $50.00 order? I then called the owner on Wednesday who had NO idea of what I was talking about? He said he would give me a large pizza and 12 wings! He would write it down!! I called today only to have them tell me I was only getting 12 wings, they call the owner and call me back and now it's a medium cheese pizza so I say okay want sausage and bacon!! I would pay the extra!! I was speaking to my partner as this is going on and this "so called manager" says we will according to owner NOT be delivering to our home and hung up on me!! We have been customers for at least 15 years!! We always try to support small businesses and this how they treat long time customers? I am stunned and very disappointed in the way we were treated!! Read moreI know - one star!...and I'll tell you why - restaurants these days are expected to be not only friendly and clean with good food and good prices, but also to practice the upmost and highest level of food safety! I usually order from here, but after weeks of seeing how the staff is "working" - I see staff using their bare hands to handle food/toppings...no one is wearing food handling plastic gloves...no hair nets, etc. - I see people come in from deliveries and go right to the back food prep area with muscle/tank shirts on - prepping orders, etc. - are we serious?! I gave this a one star rating because I found MULTIPLE hairs in my pizza - DISGUSTING! NO EXCUSE for this - and it's because of the reasons I outlined - I will NOT be returning to this restaurant again - there is not second chance...if they can get away with what I previously mentioned, that means they don't care about the food they are prepping, they don't care if they protecting the food they are serving to patrons and they don't have a caring attitude.
