We walked into Couch Potato in Waterbury out of pure curiosity—no plans to buy anything since we had already had dinner. But the energy inside quickly pulled us in. The place was buzzing: people coming and going, waiting for orders, and eating in. Right away, we were greeted by Emmanuel, the owner, with a bright, warm smile as he handed out dessert samples to everyone. You could hear the “mmm, so good” reactions echo around the room. Emmanuel was not just handing out food—he was connecting with each customer, explaining their orders, mentioning things like “I added extra of this, just how you like it,” with such genuine attention and care. He placed a menu in front of us and started passionately describing different loaded potato creations. After a couple of mouthwatering descriptions, he looked at us and said, “Tell me what you like, and I’ll make a special potato just for you.” We left with what turned out to be an amazing late-night meal. The portions were generous, beautifully plated, and the potato was cut and opened in a way that every bite had the perfect mix of ingredients. The food was delicious—but what truly made the experience unforgettable was Emmanuel’s ability to make each person feel like the most important guest in the room. We were thrilled to hear he’ll be opening a new location in Southington, CT—and we’re excited to visit and support him there, too. Before we left, Emmanuel proudly offered us a sample of his signature mac and cheese—a rich, creamy, decadent blend of five cheeses, perfected over time through lots of testing and care. I was absolutely in love with this place and I was recommending it to anyone and everyone as soon as the words "food" or "hungry" came up in a conversation. Usually when you eat the same thing all the time you become tired of it. But I can order their Sweet Baby Tater allllllll the time and it still tastes as amazing as the first time I tried it. My order was always the same, the Sweet Baby Tater and 3 flan. Dessert is a "must" for me, and unfortunately that is why I had to stop ordering from this place. One day, out of nowhere, the flan was just different. and I don't mean different like something was off about it, I mean different like they completely switched the flan they were serving, for an entirely different, and weird tasting flan. Whoever made this decision completely made the wrong call. I can almost guarantee that if you were to ask 10 customers who have tasted the old flan, how the new one compares, and they will all agree that it was a mistake to switch. Now I don't know the reason why the switch happened, and quite frankly, it's none of my business, but it is definitely the reason why I haven't ordered from them in a while. I have tried to give this new flan a shot, on a few occasions actually, but it's just not happening. As much as I love the Sweet Baby Tater, my dessert and my meal need to be from the same place most of the time because I have to order through Uber Eats when I eat out, and placing a meal order from one establishment and my dessert order from a different establishment just isn't feasible.
